Reflections for Trooper Billy Jack Zachary

Tara and Zoe,

I had the honor of attending the funeral of your lost hero. Please take comfort in the fact that the hundreds of uniformed officers present that day, along with thousands more across the country, are now praying for you and your family daily. We may not have known B.J. personally, but we feel as if we have lost our own brother, for we have! You will always be in our prayers.

Tara and Zoe,
Words cannot express the sorrow and regret that I feel for your loss. It has been such a pleasure to have supervised and worked with BJ. BJ loved his God, his family, and his job. I am so proud of what BJ brought to our area and I will sorely miss him. You will always be in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless and thank you for sharing BJ with us.

WHEN TOMORROW STARTS WITHOUT ME

When tomorrow starts without me,
And I'm not there to see;
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
All filled with tears for me;
I wish so much you wouldn't cry
The way you did today,

While thinking of the many things,
We didn't get to say.
I know how much you love me,
As much as I love you,
And each time that you think of me,
I know you'll miss me too;

But when tomorrow starts without me,
Please try to understand,
That an angel came and called my name,
And took me by the hand,
And said my place was ready,
In heaven far above,
And that I'd have to leave behind
All those I dearly love.
But as I turned to walk away,
A tear fell from my eye,
For all my life, I'd always thought,
I didn't want to die.
I had so much to live for,
So much yet to do,
It seemed almost impossible,
That I was leaving you.
I thought of all the yesterdays,
The good ones and the bad,
I thought of all the love we shared,
And all the fun we had.

If I could relive yesterday,
Just even for awhile,
I'd say good-bye and kiss you
And maybe see you smile.
But then I fully realized,
That this could never be
For emptiness and memories,
Would take the place of me.

And when I thought of worldly things,
I might miss come tomorrow,
I thought of you, and when I did,
My heart was filled with sorrow.
But when I walked
through heaven's gates,
I felt so much at home.

When God looked down and smiled at me,
From His great golden throne,
He said "This is eternity,
And all I've promised you."
Today for life on earth is past,
But here it starts anew.
I promise no tomorrow,
But today will always last,
And since each day's the same way
There's no longing for the past.
But you have been so faithful,
So trusting and so true.
Though there were times you did some things,
You knew you shouldn't do.
But you have been forgiven
And now at last you're free.
So won't you take my hand
And share my life with me?

So when tomorrow starts without me,
Don't think we're far apart,
For every time you think of me,
I'm right here, in your heart.

As the anniversary of my late fiancé's EOW passes it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to start off the new year without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Trooper Zachary, especially to his wife. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. If you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me.

From reading all the reflections left for Billy, he sounds like he was a great man and a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Billy's life and the MAN that he was. His life was about so much more than the way he died. Remember that "Wherever a beautiful soul has been ... there is a trail of beautiful memories." Billy will live on in those memories.

Trooper Zachary, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been three years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

On behalf of the entire Midland Police Department, Our prayers go out to Tara and Zoe.

The Peace Officer's Prayer:
When I start my tour of duty, God,
Wherever crime may be, As I walk the darkened highway alone, Let me be close to Thee, Please give me the understanding, With both the young and old, Let me listen with attention until their story is told. Let me never make a judgement in a rash or callous way, but let me hold my patience and let each man have his say. Lord, if some dark and dreary night, I must give up my life.... Protect with understanding love, My child and my wife.

God bless you Tara and Zoe. B.J. We will miss you and go rest high.
