Reflections for Police Officer Robert Nguyen

Officer Nguyen,
With mixed feelings of sad and joy I say that I am relieved that you have been finally brought home to your Family, loved ones, and fellow Law Enforcement Officers. The loss of an Officer is always a senseless loss no matter what the reason but may your Family be assured that they will always be in the thoughts and prayers of all Law Enforcement Officers everywhere. Rest easy Brother. We have the watch from here.

My condolences go out to the Nguyen family, especially his brother, whom I knew fairly well but haven't seen in years. I knew Rob but also haven't seen him for a while, almost 10 years in fact.

Being the wife of a police officer, my heart goes out to his family, knowing how hard it is to see your loved one off to work everyday, hoping & praying that he will come home safe.

I was proud of him when I heard a few years back that he had become a police officer. After all, he was pretty much "just a kid" the last time I saw him. And like what all others say about him, the thing that I will always remember about Rob his bright, eternal smile.

I might have last seen Rob as just a "kid", but he left this earth not only a man, but as an honored hero. Rest in Peace.

They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them.

I had the honor of meeting Rob the summer before our freshman year of College at Rutger's. We became immediate friends and spend a lot of time together our freshman year til I left Rutgers. Rob was my comfort away from home!!

Life got in the way of our friendship and we lost touch, but I never once forgot him, nor will I ever.

Rob - I will forever cherish our times together and look forward to the day we meet again -- Love Dee

Dear Rob
Since I known you have only been a gentle spirit, a warm smile and loving heart. You were laid back, love poker, a good time and friendly beyond belief. I am glad those were the memories that I have of you. You most definitely will be remembered. Your family is in my prayers and I just take it as you were such an honorable man that The Lord could use you more in heaven.

THANK YOU

In June of 2003 I was assigned to the Special Investigations Unit of our police department. This is when I formally met Robert. As we became partners, we became friends.

During our short 16 month assignment together we learned about one another and became "off the job" friends too. Going out, talking on the phone, and even personal advise was exchanged between us often, most of the time good :). A friendship was just started. We shared many of laughs together.

In August of 2004 I was assigned to the East District Detectives and Robert remained with the Special Investigations Unit. Later that year in November Robert called me one particular day and told me that he had an opportunity to go into the Emergency Service Unit. At that time he was very excited and asked my opinion. I told Robert that the only thing I can recommend was to go with his heart. His heart was in it to help people, help them at their worst moments. He than accepted this assignment and couldn't wait for his first day.

Now comes December 25th 2005. On this particular day Robert is working with Police Officer Shawn Carson and responds to a need of "assistance" call. Unfortunately it was their last call as an accident would take both officers prematurely.

Thank you for being a friend, you will never be forgotten.

Detective Sean Connors
Jersey City Police Department
