Reflections for Police Officer Shawn Carson

When my grandmother died on Christmas Day in 1975, the priest said all those who die on Christmas Day automatically become Angels in Heaven. God is fortunate to have two of Jersey City's Finest with him now! May God Bless their familes at a time of terrible loss.

Officer Carson,

May you rest in peace, although I did not know you, Police, Fire and EMS work hand in hand together, we are all one big family, we all look out for one another, and it is unfortunate when such an accident occurs and takes one of ours.

Fr. Terry (Deceased,N.Y.Metro Police Retreat Pastor)said a question that he heard many times, and one I'm sure you've asked a few times in your life is, "if the Lord is with us,why has all this happened to us?" Is there a more fundamental question any of us can ask? If the lord is with us, why has this happened.
"The only answer will be found in the mystery of God's holiness", Father Terry said. God's ways are not our ways. And the solutions to life's greatest problems will not be the result of human ingenuity or tough-mindedness. However hard we push, however conversant we may be with new physics, there is simply no getting a camel through the eye of a needle. but with God, all things are possible.
Once we human beings get beyond the illusion that we are fully in charge of both the present and the future and begin to place our fears and hopes in God's hands, we will receive from God the promised inheritance. Our hearts will be calmed, for we will discover even in the face of desperation, disease and death that God really is shalom, the peace that passes all understanding. Fr. Terry May these two officers rest in peace.

I could not believe the unfortunate manner these officers lost their lives trying to protect others from crossing this defective bridge, only to fall victim themselves. My sincere condolences and prayers go out to the family, friends and the Jersey City Police Department on the tragic loss of these Officers. I sincerely hope and pray this incident will be thoroughly investigated and justice be served to both families as this senseless loss of life appears to be preventable.

“REMEMBER ME”
Law enforcement officers are, indeed, a special breed of people. Ask anyone on the street and they will tell you that they would not have our jobs for anything in the world. It takes something special to do what we do and at the same time be able to even contemplate retirement. We try to be optimists. Unfortunately, there are a few of us who will never make that date with retirement. By the very nature of our job, we are at risk everyday of losing our lives, either at the hand of some deranged individual or in some other situation that we, by virtue of our occupation, may be unable to avoid. Some people have recognized the hazardous duties we involve ourselves in, the risks we take, and the pride we take in accomplishing that job. There is National Law Enforcement Week, dedicated to us who gladly accept the responsibility of protecting the citizens in our respective jurisdictions. National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Day is dedicated to those who gave their lives in the line of duty. These are but two examples of remembrances specifically for law enforcement personnel. Remembrances that come but once a year. We should remind fellow officers of another type of remembrance, one that will last a lifetime. Sooner or later, a doctor will pronounce us dead. It is inevitable. Regardless of whatever happens, death is the end we will all have to face.
