At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.

Tonight, December 2, 2005 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Officer Hank Nava Jr., who died in the line of duty just yesterday.

When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.

Officer Nava Jr’s sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Hank, you will always live in our hearts and will NEVER be forgotten. I have had the privilege and honor to have worked along side with you. I have great memories of meeting with you after pursuits and catching bad guys. You were always the first to make sure that everybody was alright. Truely, one of our best has been taken from us. We love you brother.

MY PRAYERS TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF THIS WARRIOR. MAY GOD BLESS YOU DURING THESE TIMES. SEEK THE LORD AND ALLOW HIM TO COMFORT YOU AND HE WILL SURELY EASE YOUR PAIN. KNOW IN YOUR HEARTS THAT OFC NAVA DID NOT DIE IN VAIN. HE PASSED DOING THE WILL OF OUR LORD. NOT EVERYONE IS MADE TO BE A POLICE OFFICER. THIS PROFESSION IS A CALLING AND OFC NAVA WAS SURELY PLACED IN THIS PROFESSION FOR A REASON. THERE ARE MANY HE TOUCHED, MANY HE SAVED, MANY HE COUNSELED DURING HIS CAREER. THE AVERAGE PERSON TAKES THESE THINGS FOR GRANTED. BUT TO THOSE WHO UNDERSTAND AND BREATH THIS PROFESSION, WE REALIZE EACH DAY WHY GOD MADE US POLICE OFFICERS. AGAIN, GOD BLESS YOU HIS FAMILY, FRIENDS, AND CO WORKERS. MAY HE REST IN PEACE. HIS SPIRIT LIVES AMONGST US AS HE CONTINUES TO FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT.

He Answered The Call"

Today in the sun, I bid him farewell
A man, a hero, I never knew well

Like many before him, who answered the call
Wearing a badge, he was destined to fall

Though by choice a long life and a happy old age
Would he have chosen, had he written the page

But the office he chose never promised long life
Just half of his salary, for his child and his wife

He went without fear, into the darkness of night
Bringing comfort to some, to some others light

Easing their pain and calming their fears
He did his duty, never asking for cheers

A husband, a cop, he answered the call
We bid him farewell for he gave his all

What incredible courage! Your sacrifice will not be forgotten, brother. Go rest high on that mountain; your work on earth is done.

May God bless and comfort your family, friends and fellow officers.
