Officer Nava,

Thank you for what you did for your dept and what you stood for as a person.

To the family : I know right now you dont understand why, nor will we ever understand why, but just know that your husband, daddy, son and friend is in a better place right now. He is in God's hands. I can honestly say to the kids I know what you are going through..You see I to lost my dad. He was a Police Officer for the City of Arlington. He was killed by a drunk driver back in 1992 and to this day I miss him more than words can say. I can tell you it does get easier as time goes on but you will always miss him. When I am lonely and want my dad, I pray. God helps and heals me and he lets me know that everything is going to be just fine. I just want your family to know you all are in my families thoughts and prayers... Keep your head lifted up and remember God is there to help ya..just call on him..

PS: Officer Nava can you please give my dad a big ol hug for me :)

Hank, I followed you to Plano PD and I followed back to Ft Worth, you are a true leader. I'm sure you know this already, but we made the right decision 7 years ago and that was to come back to Ft Worth PD because its the best department, with the greatest people in the world and they are taking real good care of your family. I hope we get to 54 some day and you can show me all those shiny badges your wearing right now, the Badges of Courage, Respect, Honor, Decency and most of all that badge of Bravery. Thank you Hank! Thank you for your friendship! Thank you for your guidance! Thank you for what you did for us, and the fellow officers who followed your footsteps. Oh, and I’m sure you’ve already been told by your wife and children but I gave the Plano PD badge you gave to me, back to your family. Peace be with you!!!!

A lot of what I do is search houses for parole violators and hiding subjects. It can be very dangerous. I am very sorry for the loss of Officer Nava. My heart goes out to the Nava family, friends, and the Ft. Worth Police Department during this difficult time. May you find comfort with God. Officer Nava, you will not be forgotten and you are a true hero. Rest in peace my brother.

It saddens me to hear of the loss of another officer. I too have been in a similar situation where i was given consent to enter and search a house and found someone hiding and surprise me. Officer Nava paid the ultimate price...a price that he did not have to pay, but was willing to do. That makes Officer Nava a hero in my book. My hat is off to Officer Nava and the many heroes that work for Fortworth PD. My condolences on the loss of a brother! God Bless your department in your time of loss. God speed my brother..God speed!

To the wife of Officer Nava,

No words can comfort you at this time but know that there are many that grieve for your husband, another fallen hero. Another father that won't see his children grow up and another wife left behind. All those shattered dreams. My husband was also murdered in the line of duty 7 months ago and I know what you're going through. The only thing that gives me any sort of comfort is my son. I know that your children will provide comfort and will give you a reason to go on. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Your husband will never be forgotten.

On December 1st 2005, The Lord was told a message from an angel. In the message this small angel spoke quietly in His presence, saying "Father, I have brought you great news once again" and God spoke with a big powerful voice and said with a loving smile, "I already know, we have inherited another battle warrior and his name is Hank Navas. He has served Me and his fellow man well, I am eternally grateful for the job he has done, for in it he was able to glorify my name and presence, while giving unselfishly to those he served. I have promoted Hank to My Plane in Heaven, and from this day forward, he will live in Peace, he will never feel Fear, nor Cry again. This I say and it shall Be Forever. Now send the others forward to Open Their Wings and Open The Gates, I want to hear them singing with Joy, "Welcome Home Hank, You Have Served Him Well, Here You Will See All Around You, Those In Blue, Who Went Before You, and They Now Welcome You Too" God then spoke to another angel saying "I want you to send a troop down to those who grieve their loss, and feel fear, I want the angel wings around those Children, That Family, and Every Comrade he served with, for they shall blot away the tears and numb the time awhile, although they will be sad to know he is gone to them, they will surely be joyful to know Today he Reigns in Heaven With Me and My Promise to them is This, his death on Earth is not forever, it is but a tick in time, you are promised by Me as it is Written, the next time you see Hank Navas, it will be in Heaven, where time, tears and fears are never again, no more" "The next time will not be but a short tick in time, but rather as I Have Always Promised, Forever, Eternal." "Till then, march on and know I am there with you this day, as yesterday"

I would like to fully extend my sincerest condolonces to the family, comrades and friends of of Hank Nava, I had the opportunity to meet Hank one night in Fort Worth when I was coming home from my interstate duties. He was a fine officer and very impressionable when I met him. I wrote a poem I hope will give his family and fellow comrades some comfort. I have shed tears with his loss, as I also worked in New Orleans the same time he was there. In closing I would like to say to him, we will miss you brother in blue, and will see you again one day. God takes the very best, and Hank surely proved himself here. Good bye my friend.

I have always respected invidivuals who made the choice to help and serve others. This choice effects their lives and their families. All of us need to remind ourselves of this and when we see a police officer, a fireman, a medical person...we need to stop them and say "Thank you for doing what you do".

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

As a 24 year member of the LAPD and a Department Chaplain, I spend many hours trying to provide comfort to surviving family members after our Brothers & Sisters in Law Enforcement make the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
There are really no words that can be spoken, no actions that can remove the pain and sorrow and no one person who can provide that comfort needed to get us through these losses.
I lost my wife of twenty years (Vicky Lynn) after a one year battle with cancer and I have been face to face with ultimate despair and sorrow.
My faith was the solid anchor which held me together and allowed me to carry on.
I think of the wonderful true story told to me by Father Frank, also of the LAPD Chaplain Corps, about a world renowned Italian Composer, who began working on his most inspirational and greatest musical piece. As he approached the 3/4 mark in completion, he was told that he was dying and hurried to try to finish his work. Unfortunately, he died before he could finish the classical piece, but had left instructions to his closest friends, asking that they finish his work for him.His friends honored his request and finished the piece.
His best friend, also a renowned composer and conductor, lead the orchestra in performing his friend's music for the first time, before a full audience. As they came to the section of the music where their friend died, the conductor abruptly stopped the music. He then replied to all there, " now this is the place where our friend and the Master laid down his pen. Now we will continue from the point where his friends picked up the Master's pen and finished the piece for him." They completed the selection and the cheers rang out.
There was not a dry eye in the audience.
We must always remember and honor our fallen and lost family by carrying on their work, their goals and celebrating the lives that they lived with each passing day.
God Bless you!
Sincerely,
Senior Lead Officer/Chaplain Ron Carter
