To the Stewart & NYPD family,
My deepest sympathy goes out to the family as well as the NYPD. May GOD rest your soul my brother. I'm a retired MOS but please believe that even though I work for another agency now, I still NYPD BLUE all the way. Only a true officer can know what it is to wear the NYPD uniform. I'm especially touched by this tragedy since I was formerly assigned to the "70". Just to let the family know that even though I'm in Atlanta, Ga., I was immediately notified of the incident even before it hit the news. It is unfortunate that it always takes a tragedy to take place in order to be recognized but nevertheless it is a strong reminder that when we put that shield on we are to wear it with honor and courage. We are the "FINEST" officer's in the world and don't ever give that prestige up. GOD Bless you all and please STAY SAFE.

20,000 Pay Tribute to Fallen NYC Officer

The Associated Press
Tuesday, December 6, 2005; 6:35 PM

NEW YORK -- An estimated 20,000 police officers, some from as far away as Hawaii and Japan, turned a Brooklyn neighborhood into an ocean of blue Tuesday in a tribute to a slain New York police officer.

"It was simply his nature to want to help others," Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said of 35-year-old Dillon Stewart.

Stewart, shot though the heart during a Nov. 28 traffic stop, was remembered as an extraordinary man who made an extraordinary decision to quit his accounting job and join the NYPD at age 30.

"I feel truly blessed and honored to have married such a wonderful man. His life was just begun," Stewart's widow Leslyn told friends, family and others who gathered at the cavernous 1,500-seat New Life Tabernacle Church. "I will always love him with my whole heart."

The Stewarts' children, 6-year-old and 5-month-old, sat with friends.

Kelly was joined by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who hailed Stewart for his dedication to both family and job.

"Dillon was a hero," Bloomberg told the crowd. "In fact, from his earliest days, service to others came as natural to Dillon as breathing."

The Jamaican-born Stewart grew up in Brooklyn. His accused killer, Allan Cameron, was charged with first-degree murder. Cameron also was charged with attempted murder in the shooting of an off-duty officer days earlier.

Local residents held up signs praising the slain officer. "This Brooklyn community has the deepest sympathy for Officer Stewart and his family," read one.

As the casket, draped in a green and white NYPD flag, was brought out of the church on its way to the cemetery, seven NYPD helicopters did a flyover.

Greetings to the Stewart Family,
May God Bless you all and I pray that you find comfort during this most trying time. I live in East Flatbush and even though I have never met Detective Stewart, I am thankful for the work that he has done. He is truly a warrior..that fought to the end... and now he is at rest.

As I walked to the train station yesterday morning, on my way to work, I saw my whole neighborhood ( Avenue D ) come to a halt for his memorial services. What a somber, but beautiful sight...Please know that Detective Stewart will not be forgotten..
