Heard the story of my great great grandfather many times; spent many summers of my youth at his home with his daughter/my great grandmother. I visited the family cemetery to pay respects recently and will be eternally grateful for the sacrifices you made. RIP

I have heard this story many times over the past 64 years and have several keepsakes that belonged to J.J. Lee. (As he signed his name in his New Testament and Ledger.) I have always been proud to be his great grandson and to carry his name.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 114th anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to be among the first to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I NEVER KNEW MUCH ABOUT J.J. LEE UNTIL AFTER I RETIRED FROM THE NAVY AND BECAME A DEPUTY IN BAY COUNTY, IN DECEMBER 1999. MY GRANDFATHER ROBERT LANSFORD THEN TOLD ME ABOUT LEE. ACCOURDING TO MY GRANDFATHER, LEE WAS THE SHERIFF NOT JUST A DEPUTY. IT SEEMS THAT HE WAS KILLED IN 1899 WHILE CROSSING A MOUNTAIN TO JOIN A POSE. I BECAME A DEPUTY IN 1999, ONE HUNDRED YEARS LATER. HE WAS VERY WELL LIKED AND RESPECTED BY ALL THOSE WHO KNEWN HIM. I NEVER MET HIM BUT I HAVE VISITED HIS GRAVE SITE. I BELIEVE THAT BY MY BEING A FELLOW SHERIFF'S DEPUTY I NOW HAVE A CLOSER BOND WITH HIM.

AFTER I LEARNED ABOUT THIS SITE I FELT IT WAS ONLY RIGHT THAT HE BE ENTERED.
