Reflections for Lieutenant Robert Manuel Cabral

Manny, It's been a long time and the sad anniversaries come and go. We drove by the crash site today and thought about you. Hopefully we can make it to the wall next year for Al's tenth year anniversary and Dads final year on the job. Merry Christmas Drew

Dear Bobby:
I am thinking of you especially today, my heart is heavy for your family and loved ones. You are missed beyond words by each of them. It's THREE YEARS, but not to those that miss and love you. No times ever passes. You were and continue to be a gift to this world. Thank you.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Bobby:
Merry Jerry to you and Ma.

I'm sure Ma is laughing at the Merry Jerry. The merry has faded from my holidays...first Ma, Then last year you............and now my Garcia..........Bobby I wish I could turn the clock back to when we were playing baseball in our backyard with the John and Billy. I wish I could have stopped what you went through on that fateful night. "Blood brothers on a summers night with a vow to defend...no retreat, no surrender."

I love you my big brother. I know Garcia is bringing you joy as he brought me. I saw Jake yesterday with Alec and Mitchell. I can tell he, like the boys and the rest of us miss you soooooooo much.

This ain't fair..............it actually sucks Bobby.
I love you. Tommy

Bobby was one of the best people I have ever known. He honestly and truly loved his boys, the children of his town, and his town. He was always an fine example of how people should be, and a good role model for officers and potential officers to follow. I don't believe there were enough hours in the day for all that he did for everyone. I truly miss him at this time of year, and am proud to have been a friend of his. I sincerely hope that his boys will be comforted knowing how many people thought the world of him.

Bob, I cant beleive how fast the time goes bye. I miss you so much. I think about you every day, and i visit the cemetary very frequently. Your stone is beautiful, the kids did s great job with it. Your boys are getting so big, they are very respectful kids, thanks to you and Nancy. You both did a great job with them. Nancy still continued too. I wish there would be more fathers in this world that cared about their children like you did. Its not the same going by the police station and not seeing you there. All i can say is that i miss you. Rest in peace. Your loved and missed more than you could ever imagine. I Love you Bob.....

My thoughts are with your loved ones on this first anniversary of your end of watch. People will say it seems like yesterday that this incident occurred and then there are others that it has felt like a lifetime since you were called away. Whatever the case, you are loved and missed by many and will never be forgotten as your are a true hero and heroes never die. Keep watch over your loved ones and those still out on patrol watching over the Thin Blue Line.

Dear Bob,

We grew up together in North Swansea. Just a couple of local kids that both went into law enforcement. You were some, not many, but some years older than me. You were always decent to me, always had a kind word. We worked together when I started out on Swansea PD. When you were killed, it seemed so weird, so surreal. You were always suppose to be there. You were one of those people that I always knew and I took for granted that you would always be there. To attend your funeral for a brother officer, fallen in the line of duty, that just wasn't suppose to happen. Not to someone from the old neighborhood. Someone that was always a sincere person with a kind heart. Rest in peace my brother.

A year ago, my world and my heart were ripped apart by the act of one selfish individual. The pain I feel hasn't diminished. What we used to see as obstacles seem so trivial now. Thank you, Bob, for bringing so many blessings to my life, especially the two I hold most important and most dear. You know they are my priority now. It seems so fitting that the last thing you and I did together was a community service project, eh? I promise I will do all I can to keep your dream and vision alive. You will always be my Hero and my Love. Please keep watch over us and help me fulfill our mission.
