Reflections for Police Officer Stanley Cornell Reaves

I just wanted to thank all our officers and their families, but here especially the family of Stanley Reaves. I didn't know him, however in his loss of life he left an impression on me. I grew up in the neighborhood he died protecting. It was nearly 20 years ago. I'm 40 now. With all the other things that have happened in my life, before and since then, I will never forget that day. The sadness, the anger, and the guilt I felt as a member of the Park Place community. We lost a good officer that day, but also a father, a husband, and a friend to so many. I drove by there today. I drive by there often. I think about him every single time. May God continue to give strength and comfort to his family! Our city forever owes your a hefty debt of gratitude.

I remember the fun we had working the streets of Baltimore. Stan was extremely funny. Kids loved him. Citizens loved him. He was a gentle gentleman. Back in those days of the Baltimore PD, we were able to clown around as long as we did our jobs. Stan would put on a pair of shades and dance like the rapper Heavy D for the kids because they said he resembled him. Stan did the job and did it right. Rest in peace brother.

I had the privilege to meet a very special person today. This person lived on west 27th street in Norfolk. While there I noticed a memorial in his front yard. This memorial was dedicated to Officer Stanley Reaves. Officer Reaves' life and death so touched his heart, that he felt both compelled and honored to memorize him in what way he could. Well Done Sir! Well Done Officer Reaves!

I can't believe it has been 10 years. It still seems like yesterday that you were here with us. I talked to Reagan and Ryan about you all the time. My heart aches when I think about all that you are missing and what we are missing by not having you here. Continue to watch over us. My love, you will always be in my heart.

I had the honor and pleasure of working with you @ the Bowie Movie Theater in 2004. Although I was a security officer, you treated me like a brother in blue each and everyday. I hope you find solice in knowing that the suspect was captured and sentenced properly. R.I.P. Stan, for you and the family are FOREVER in my heart and prayers.

My husband and I had just begun dating when your life was taken. I think about you, your children and your devoted wife every autumn. While I know there are people who would prefer you here, the view from above must be beautiful. Requiem in pacem, brother.

Its been 7 years without you now. I still can't believe you had to leave us so soon. You are in my thoughts daily and always will be. Reagan and Ryan are growing beautifully. You would be so proud of them. You will forever be in our hearts.

Treva,
I think of you and your children often. I will always remember his eyes and how they spoke to me every time his story was on the News. They compelled me to find you and bring you the roses for your first Valentine's Day that he would not be here with you. I was just a stranger wanting to lift you up from the grief. Never dreamed the date I appeared on your doorstep would be a date that held significence for you. Glad I followed my heart, on such a dismal rainy day. God bless you and you family.
