Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Michael Kevin Saffran

We all grieve for Officer Michael Saffran and he will be remembered for all time through our memorials and ceremonies ….. along with his name being placed on the hallowed walls of the National Police Officer’s Memorial, in Washington, DC. Of course, this is little comfort to family, friends and his extended “law enforcement family”. As I near the end of my career in Chesapeake I am reminded, by his death, of the sacrifice we are all willing to make. Officer Saffran made this sacrifice for us, and the citizens he protected that fateful day. Let us remember him fondly and his heroic and gallant deed.

I’ve been away from my office for a few days only to find so many of my brothers have fallen. I pray your family and friends will find strength and comfort in the reflections left by your extended family. May your spirit have a joyous homecoming and may you enjoy your eternal resting place “High on the mountain”.

I am a cousin of Larry Blount. I have not seen him in over 20 years. Who would imagine such a terror. My heart goes out to the love ones of this officer. I have read some of the rememerences on the web and believe he was not only a wonderful officer but a wonderful person. On the behalf of my family, I apoligize for your husband, father, and friend's life being taken. In the memory of Officer Michael Saffran, I promise to teach my children and grandchildren to live a God-fearing life,in the service and helping of others. To the children, I give a special apology. I pray that God heals all hurt and anger in your hearts. Please forgive us!!! WITH ALL MY HEART! Angela Holloway

We are a regional academy of 55 recruits made up of many different jurisdictions from the peninsula and southside. Your passing has happend a mere two weeks from our graduation and bought many of us back to the very real fact that we too will soon be out on the streets facing the same challenges that you faced.
You, your family, and your fellow CPD officers are forever in our thoughts and prayers.

~~~Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep~~~
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints on snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn’s rain
I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds circled in flight
I am the soft star that shines at night
I am the flowers that bloom by day
I am the fragrance of new mown hay
I am each blade of grass that grows
I am the rush of melting snow
Do not stand at my grave and cry
I am no there, I did not die…..
The Brotherhood that crosses the Ocean so easily lost one of their own. May all who miss brother Saffran find the strenght to overcome their loss. For what it is worth: In the Netherlands this Brgadier is thinking of Officer Saffran and those he had te leave behind.
Vigilat ut Quiescant: He wakes so they can rest. Officer Saffran did for sure. We will keep on doing so.
He stood with honor he stood with grace
he stood with his right hand raised
Taking the oath to protect and serve
Not giving a thought he would one day give his all.
Through the months he stopped drunks and punks trying to smoke and sell that bad stuff he had taken rude and hurtful names. Bruises and cuts but no need for complain.
Then the day came Oct 8th
he had gotten the call to give his all
I was in the dispatch center when I heard shots fired
Officer down "officer down"
I knew what was going on and
prayed this was all just a bad dream,and
that you would be fine at the end of the day.
Then that call from a fellow officer telling me my worst fear had just
come true.
I whispered and cried why today
why this way. Not one of my guys,
brothers, family in blue.
Saffran its now 10-42 here on earth,now U1310 your 10-41 in heaven 10-6 watching over your family,friends and co-workers doing 10-78 for the greatest commander and chief....
Now and for always you'll be Code 4
never forgotten and always remembered.
Love you Bud and you are truly my HERO.
Mike, I know that you’re in a better place and that you served with pride. My husband and I truly enjoyed getting to know you. I wish with all my heart that you were still with us but, I know that you will still be signing on with each and every officer on the street. Your family will be taken care of by each and everyone of the officers from the 47th session. My family and I will always remember the happy moments we had together and I know that my husband will never forget the bond you guys had while going threw and completing the police academy. Thanks again for your wonderful service and the opportunity to get to know you. May you rest in peace while helping God keep your fellow officers safe.
