I was in Orlando when the event occurred and saw it on the news. What a terrifying thing to happen. My heart goes out to the family and to Officer Diaz. You're death proves that there are just so many bizzare ways a cop can go that one can never be propperly prepared.

God Bless you Patrolman Diaz and may God protect your family, though I know you do so, still.

Brother Diaz, It was an honor to have worked with you. In your work, you demonstrated what it was to be the best. I have no doubt that you have gone on to a better place. The department and the citizens of Fort Lauderdale have lost an outstanding officer. You will not be forgotten.

Jose, I can't tell you how shocked and saddened I was to hear of your death this past Saturday. I can still remember your first day on the job at FLPD when you came to the FOP office and we had an opportunity to spend some time together and the day you were sworn in, in the Chief's conference room.
My heartfelt condolances go to your wife, son, daughter, and other family members, they are in our prayers.
During my visits to the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial in Washington D.C. there is an enscription on the granite wall that reads, "It's not how these officers died that made them heroes, it's how they lived their life." This typifies the type of man you are, always thinking of others and doing whatever you could to help someone else. Your friendship and dedication to duty will be remembered for many many years and you will never be forgotten.

Peace be with you brother.

Words seem so senseless at a time like this, but unfortunately that's all we have.

At least with Bryant Peney we all had someone to blame, to be angry at, to hate - with Jose we have nothing. There is no one to hate or be angry at or to blame!

He was a good person and a great police officer that will be missed more than he'll ever know. Hopefully his family can take some comfort in the fact that he was liked and respected by many-and never missed a chance to help someone.

To his wife and children, I am truly sorry for your loss.

In Memory of Officer Jose Diaz

As we go through this difficult time of the lost of Officer Jose Diaz, things can cause us to ask why did this happen. But if we're trusting in Christ we never need to ask how could he let this happen. God may never reveal all his reasons to us, but he has revealed his character to us. His character assures us that he never makes mistakes, is never uncaring, and he never separates himself from our needs.

Gone but not forgotten.

"My thoughts of my friend Jose Diaz, is that he displayed the essence and the art of a kind, God fearing, family man. He was more than a friend...he was an inspiration! He always had a kind word, and a gentle expression that could soothe a trouble person. Without hesitation, I can say...my friend, I love and miss you. Edward

As parents of a fellow FLPD officer of Patrolman Diaz, we extend our deepest sympathy to Officer Diaz's family. We will continue our prayers for the law enforcement officers of FLPD, and elsewhere. We reflect back to the loss of Officer Penny, and now to Officer Diaz, and pray that such a loss will not happen again. They will continue their service in heaven, a better place certainly, but will be forever missed here in this world. May the fond memories for family and friends at least somewhat lessen the loss, and may God be with them.

Jose,
You devoted you life to keeping us safe.
Even when it meant, your life you would pay. You are all that an Officer can be,
putting others first unselfishly. May God comfort us through this sorrow. May your memory brighten the days that follow.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Ofc Diaz, who with his family were our neighbours in New York. My son, who was made to feel like a member of the family, is devastated. Our thoughts and prayers go out to this fine man's family and friends at this most difficult time.

I’ve been away from my office for a few days only to find so many of my brothers have fallen. I pray your family and friends will find strength and comfort in the reflections left by your extended family. May your spirit have a joyous homecoming and may you enjoy your eternal resting place “High on the mountain”.

I remember that cold day in December of 2002 when I met you at the John Jay College Criminal Justice Job Fair. You were serious about coming to Fort Lauderdale Department. The next time I saw you, was in the halls on the second floor of the Police Station. Your positive attitude, warm demeanor, and great sense of humor will truly be missed.

THE POLICE OFFICERS LIFE
I have been where you fear to be
I have seen what you fear to see
I have done what you fear to do
All these things I've done for you
I am the one you lean upon
the one you cast your scorn upon
the one you bring your troubles to
All these people I've been for you
The one you ask to stand apart
The one you feel should have no heart
The one you call the officer in blue
But I am just like you!
And through the years I've come to see
That I am not what you ask of me
So take this badge and take this gun
Will you take it will anyone?

And when you watch a person die
And hear a battered baby cry
Then do you think that you can be
All these things you asked of me?

Proud to have been a fellow FLPD Officer with you Jose.....
