I CAN SAY A LOT ABOUT DIRECTOR NELSON. NOT ONLY WAS HE A GREAT SUPERVISOR AND OUTSTANDING ASSET TO THIS CITY, HE WAS A DEAR FRIEND.WE ALL FELT VERY COMFORTABLE TALKING TO HIM, ON OR OFF DUTY. HE WANTED TO MAKE SURE HIS EMPLOYEES WERE HAPPY. HE WAS AN ALL AROUND GUY WHO LOVED LIFE AND HE LOVED TO MAKE PEOPLE LAUGH. I WOULD ALWAYS ASK HIM TO TELL ME A JOKE AND IF HE DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING NEW HE WOULD MAKE UP ONE, AND IT WOULD BE JUST AS FUNNY. THAT'S THE KIND OF PERSON HE WAS, HE WANTED TO MAKE SURE HE MADE ME LAUGH. WE LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU DEARLY DIRECTOR NELSON.THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER LIKE YOU.

dion nelson! for everyone who knew him their life was touched by a special person. he was a supervisor and a friend. even though there was only 5 years age difference i would go as far to say he was a father figure also. his advise was priceless on to many occassions. he will be truly missed even though i know he's still watching over his YPD. we take pride here knowing that he trained us his soldiers to be dion nelson like. there will never be another one like him but we will carry his YPD like he is still here. To the family and friends of Chief of Police Dion R Terrell Nelson...

My heart goes out to you. It is evident that this beautiful young man touched many lives. It is evident that this man lived a life of character and integrity as well as great service. To his parents that brought him in to this world as well as to his parents that guided him throughout his life, we all understand a little about your deep loss, anguish, shock surrounding this entire situation. God will help you heal. I pray that his legacy will live on through the lives of the people that knew him well. Live a life of service in honor of this mans legacy. Give of yourself and keep your communities stong. We had a great model in this young man. What a testimony to the human spirit! God bless you all!

There are so many things to say about Dion. He was everyhting you could think of. I would never have known him had it not been for Stacie. He made her happy and that's all that mattered to me. But when I got to know him, I loved him too. Dion is truly missed but all we have to do is look into the eyes of any of his children and he's looking right back at us. To Ms. Bootie, Stacie, Astryd, Achuntee, Dion Jr., and Dakari, please know that Dion will always be here with us in spirit and I know he is watching over us. I love you all. Rest in peace Dion.

Dion was a dedicated man of service to his community and country. He found his niche for serving his community when we were in high school. We both served as volunteer firefighters and lifeguards for the City of York. We found it enjoyable and honorable to serve our community at such a young age. I will never forget our enthusiasm when we were called to our first fire. His dedication to serving the community continued as he became a police officer and firefighter for the city. Beyond taking care of York, the city he loved, he was a dedicated soldier and a caring friend. Dion will always be my best friend and my brother. When I was down, he lifted me up. When I thought of giving up, he gave me hope. I've known and loved him all of my life... we were joined at the hips from the day we met. It's very hard for me to accept his passing b/c he was one of my reasons for living. I often visualized us as "old men" fishing and telling stories about our younger days. I will cherish the memories we shared and share our stories with our kids and tell them what a great man he had become. To use his favorite word... he was OUTSTANDING..............
