To CHP Officer David Romero and his loved ones:

On this the seventh month after your tragic death, please know that your memory is honored and revered today.

My heart is still with your family and I look forward to meeting them in Sacramento and/or D.C. You’re all in our thoughts and our prayers.

David, you rescued us, saved our lives and our families. You are one of the rare heroes among us. You were always there for us in the most traumatic moments of our lives. No matter when we called, we just expected that you would come and do whatever it took to help us, and you always met our expectations. Your selflessness and dedication are awe-inspiring.

This world, this country, your community truly are better places because of you. To have lost you is a great tragedy, an irreplaceable, immeasurable loss for society. We are grateful for and to you, and honor you for all you did for us day in and day out whether you received a word of thanks or praise.

Rest in Peace, Officer David Romero. I am so humbled by your valor and courage.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service David gave to his community and the citizens of Califonia, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on September 23, 2005.

Dear Officer Romero: I did not have the privilege of knowing you, but I've met your wife and all five children and feel honored to know them. I'm a volunteer victim advocate for MADD-San Bernardino County Chapter and know all too well what drunk and impaired drivers can do. I have promised Sandra that we all are working so this never happens again. Your fellow officers (of my beloved CHP) are diligent and doing their duty. You will never be forgotten. God's speed, motorman. Patrol Heaven's streets with dear Reuben Rios and John Bailey...they were our best too. Wish my injuries had not kept me from passing the physical so I could pick up part of your beat here on earth. YOU and my guys know why I'm not wearing the badge. So we'll keep you in our hearts.

We are so sorry to here about your tragic loss of a loved one in law enforcement. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you in support. As we personally know, sometimes there is little comfort that comes from words. Keep focused as you can on the memories and joyous times for these things may bring you comfort. Rely heavily on family, friends, and other law enforcement. Honor your fallen loved one, for their sacrifice will not be forgotten.

I just wanted to express my sadness over the loss of a fine officer to both his family and his CHP family. I used to work in the SFS office and was the timekeeper. I often think of the officers and all the ladies in the office. You are all doing a great job. May God watch over your coming and going. Everytime you see a rose think of all that is good and kind.

To the Family of Dave Romero -

I only knew Dave a short tile while I broke in @ Springs. While attending his funneral, it was obvious that he was well liked and highly regarded as a motor officer and a citizen within the community and family. I know I wont forget Dave and for those who will never get the opportunity to meet him - it is a great loss. My deepest condolences to the Romero family and the Santa Fe Springs Area.
Rest in Peace.

David,
Today is October 23,2005 one month since your death. We miss you greatly, we talk about you daily, and we sometimes laugh about the past times you shared with your cousin. Mike has some funny memories that he will keep in his heart forever. While on earth you may not have known how many lives you touched but now since you are in Heaven you see very clearly how many of us really loved you. I know God has assigned you to a new "Watch" now. The watching over of those of us that love and miss you. Mike has so many great memories of you and him growing up. He tells me stories all the time. He laughs, he cries, the best thing is you touched our lives, that we will never forget.

To a good friend I had known for a very long time and worked with side by side on the Pomona Freeway. My family and will miss you. I most of all will miss the breakfast's every morning at Express Burgers and the meeting places at Winchell's and the carwash. You were a good friend. I hope God will take care of you and let you ride your CHP motor all over heaven. Dave, I will miss hearing you ask to go 10-10 from the field as I drive my unit back to the office through traffic. we will miss you.

"If you are able,
save for them a place
inside of you
and save one backward glance
when you are leaving
for the places they can no longer go.
Be not ashamed to say
you loved them,
though you may or may not have always.
take what they have left
and what they have taught you
with their dying
and keep it with your own.
And in that time
when men decide and feel safe
to call war insane,
take one moment to embrace
those gentle heroes
you left behind."
