Reflections for Special Agent Stephen Eric Sullivan

"Don't walk in front of me
"I may not follow.
"Don't walk behind me
"I may not lead.
"Just walk beside me
"And be my friend."

I had the pleasure of meeting with Sully in 1989-90 during his short time at Digital Equipment Corporation's Semi-Conductor University. He was there to learn electronics to persue work in the Semi-Conductor Orginization. Well, after some time Steve and I ended up teaming up for lab experiments, etc. We became good friends and he even helped me build a garage addition on my home. He was just that kind of person. Well over time I sensed Steve was having a little trouble dealing with electronics, labs, and all abstract things that go with electronics. While tutoring Steve in preparation for a major exam to be taken, Steve confided in me a very interesting direction he was about to take. Steve and I were sitting in a small office area studying for that exam when he looked me straight in the eyes and confessed," I hate electronics". He said this is just not what he wanted to do. He said he loves people and wanted to do work helping people in some way. He said he would like to become, maybe, a Massachusetts State Trooper or something like that. I told him you must do what makes you happy. Well, he dropped out of the classes and left Digital Equipment Corp and went to college to study law enforcement. After some time we drifted apart, until I lost contact with him- although I always wondered what became of Sully. As we all know now Sully became more than someone that was to help people in some way. He was a good friend to everybody with an incredible way of making everybody laugh while around him. A person with a good heart, a law enforcement officer, an American Hero.
That is Stephen Eric Sullivan.

Your good friend,
Leo Guglielmo
