Reflections for Special Agent Stephen Eric Sullivan

I went to visit your grave today. We were classmates in our home town Westboro, MA. You went to Iraq to protect people and died serving your country. You were always so brave and selfless. I am glad I finally got to visit you and pay my respects. I'll always remember you.

I knew Steve from high school. We were on the soccer team. I remember one night at the hockey rink some guys from another town were giving me a hard time. Steve stepped in between me an 3-4 of them and told them they would have to deal with him first. He was so confident and brave that none of them wanted any more trouble. I did not ask him to do this - he just did. I never forgot it. I was in Iraq serving on a protection detail with NCIS when I heard he was killed. I was surprised and sad about it. When I read about his life of service, to adolescents and protecting people I was so impressed, but I was not surprised at all. Next time I am in Westborough I will make it a point to visit your grave out of deep respect.

Stephen, still emblazoned in my memory 365 and 24/7 ... recently in contact with another DSS agent from your neck of the woods. Small world. He put a smile on my face acknowledging the facilities named for 'Sully' and the studies of the mission. I'm crying as I write but that's how I know it's you. Your spirit is with me always. God rest you forever for all you sacrificed and for the loss your family suffered. PeaceLove&Light and one day we'll laugh together again!

Always&Forever,

I was recently assigned to the DS Training Center, and every day I walk by a portrait honoring Special Agent Sullivan. Each time I see his face it reminds me of Isaiah 6:8: "Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!"

Steve, not a week goes by that you don't enter my thoughts. I think about riding in the van with you from the homewood suites on Gallows road to our training events and I think about your son who lives on without you and I think about the day i was sitting in the chow hall at the old palace in Baghdad when they told me you were killed. I knew you briefly but you linger in my thoughts. I will see you on the high ground one day my friend. rest in peace.

Special Agent Sullivan, today marks the 10th anniversary of your murder at the hands of a fanatic. You did a service few are truly cut out for and it's one of those jobs that tough, vital, harrowing and often overlooked by the public. You died in the service of this nation and it seems had a history of service, first as a Marine.

I thank you for that service. God Bless you and may you forever Rest in Peace, Brother.

P.S., I like that hat you have on in the picture. I've got the same one. God Bless you for THAT as well.

SA Sullivan,

It's been nearly 10 years since you honorably served your nation by offering the ultimate sacrifice. You embody DS' reason for existence, protecting those who work for peace from those who would do them harm.

you served with honor and will always be remembered in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Sully--

Am headed to a Central African Post as RSO...scarcely a month goes by without thoughts of our time together in training or of that deployment to Iraq. I think of you, and pray for your courage, dedicating and selflessness as I embark on this most important of duties.

I can't believe it's been almost 10 years--where has the time gone? sometimes it fells as though it all just happened.

God Bless.

My tears will never cease as your spirit and energy are with me always. They flow a bit more freely each and every time I write. Another year marked on this day September 19, 2014. I hope and pray that your family continues to find peace in the knowledge that your sacrifice will never have been in vain. I miss you every single day 365 and 24/7.

I was recently working in Baghdad... there was still a small housing compound named after and dedicated to "Sully."

I am sorry for your loss.

Sunday (December 25, 1994) at the Tipperary Pub in Worcester I met Sulley; and although we only talked a few hours and wrote a couple of times, God by His providence reunited in San Diego years later.

My dear friend of almost 30 years, served with Stephen in the USMC. He recently shared his story with me during a visit to my home in Boston, MA. Coincidentally, I am running in the 2013 Marine Corps Marathon and raising money for the TAPS organization, which supports families who have lost loved ones in service to our country. I hope it's okay, and in no way offends his friends or family, but I thought, as a resident of Massachusetts (Stephen's home state) it only seemed fitting that I honor his service to our country by adding his name my bib. The names on my bib are those in whose memory I am dedicating my run. Please let me know if this is unacceptable or unwanted.

I knew Sully in Kabul where we were both assigned, before he left for Baghdad. I will never forget how excited he was to get that assignment. He was always in good sprits, and the constant professional. I couldnt believe it when I heard in Pakistan that he was gone.

Rest in Peace, Sully...
