SARGE: I had the honor of having you as a leader. Working alongside of you I learned how to be a better Deputy. I had the honor of working with you during the UTEP game, which came to be our last one together. I still remember our last "Curadas" (Spanish Slang for Laughs) we had together that night. That is how I will always remember you SARGE. Now GOD felt jealous and wanted to have you by his side because he knows how great you are. I will miss hearing your call sign "2 Sam 10" over the radio. Now your new call sign is next to GOD and continuing to watch us from up there. Thank you for all of your great work and dedication and for keeping us safe everyday with your words of wisdom and by sharing your experiences and knowledge with all of us.

I've known Ruben during my entire career of 23 years. I've had the distinct pleasure and honor of working closely with Ruben for over 6 of those years, the last three being in narcotic enforcement. During those years, I learned to respect and love him for who he was and what he stood for. I truly respected him as a friend, colleague, brother and patriot. He served his country and his community. I've never met anyone more committed or dedicated to the things they loved more than Ruben. He loved his family, friends, co-workers, his department, the Marines, running, and even the Dallas Cowboys. Whatever it was, he was committed to it all the way, 100%. Always with a smile, never an unkind word, and always a gentlemen. It is said that people will forget what you say, they may even forget what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel. Ruben always made people feel welcomed, important, and that their lives meant something to him. Even though I have many "trophy shots" in my office of Ruben and the other officers, it is he who has the greatest prize now. We, too, will soon be called Home. But in the meantime, Ruben, get the place ready and in order,... your watch here on Earth is over. All of us are truly thankful to Mary, JoAnn, Liz and RJ for sharing you with us, for our lives have been made richer knowing you. Peace be with you, Brother.

Sarge, we have all suffered a truely great loss, however, we will overcome through your inspiration. You set an example for us all to, "treat others as you wish to be treated". I will miss our short, but meaningful conversations. God bless your family as they will be in our prayers.
