Reflections for Sergeant Ruben Orozco, Sr.

Sarge: You were a great leader, mentor, but most of all you were a great man. You treated everyone with respect and with a smile. You were truly a class act in our business and you will always be remembered. May God bless you and your family.

Ruben O. the man I first met in 1982, when I was a rookie with the department. Showed up at the station showing the scars from an accident you were a victim of in Sept. 1981. You said I'll be back, I thought who is this guy. You did return and you took me under your wing, along with my other older brothers in the shift and you all taught me how to be a caring, compasionate, ethical and respectul officer. We will miss you Ruben, and I know heaven is a better place because you are there. God bless Mary, Elizabeth, JoAnn and RJ who miss you more than we do. Please help us heal their hurts as well as ours. Your legacy will live on. We Love You Ruben.

My dondolences go out to the Orozco family. I knew Ruben from Texas Narcotics Officer's Association, when I was in Narcotics. I am glad to have had the pleasure of having met one of the finest and professional officers in this line of work. It saddens me to see that such an awful accident cut Sgt. Orozco's career short. My prayers and thoughts are there for him, his family and the El Paso Sheriff's Office. May God Bless RUBEN.

We have not only lost an officer but a true friend. This tragedy has pulled at all the heart strings of the members of this department. Sgt. Orozco was one that would have done anything that was asked of him either as a favor or in the performance of his duties. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. I pray that God give comfort to his wife Mary and his family in this moment of sorrow. God Bless.

You always had a smile, a handshake and a hello for everyone you met. You weren't just an officer but a friend to everyone. Even though I hadn't seen you in awhile, you'll be extremely missed. For the new officers and anyone else who didn't get a chance to know you, they will never know what a fine example you set for us. We will miss you Sarge.

The men and women of the University of Texas at El Paso Police Department join our brothers and sisters from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office in mourning the loss of our colleague, Sgt. Ruben Orozco. Ruben was a friend to all, mentor to many, and set a perfect example of what a Texas Peace Officer should be. Ruben worked closely with the UTEP PD for over 15 years and his tragic passing leaves a void that can never be replaced.
