PBA
Town of Camillus Police Department, NY

August 13, 2005

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

Tim I remember when you were on FTO. You were always happy and ready to do whatever came your way that day. Everytime I saw you after that, you were always in a good mood. I see your smile in your department photo and that is exactly how I remember you. Rest in peace and know that your family will be taken care of. We'll see you again someday, but until then watch over us out there on the streets.

I feel now that the time that I knew you was ever so fleeting. I will though remember that you had a trememdous work ethic and always were kind to those you worked with. God Bless You and Your Family. You will certainly be missed at the San Xavier District and the entire Dept.

Tim-
I sat next to you during our academy days and remember your professionalism, dedication, and good sense of humor (which came in handy during those long runs up and down the tower.)
I watched as you became a fine deputy and felt that I could trust you as back up for any call. Even though we worked for different departments, we started in the same place and because of that, your loss is especially painful. To your loved ones, know that we are there for you at anytime, and share in your pain, regardless of the color of our uniform, because we are all one family.
Tim, rest in peace brother.

To the family and friends of Deputy Graham and his law enforcement family in Pima County: I wanted to extend my sincerest condolences on the loss of Deputy Graham. The tragic cirumstances of his death was such a senseless act that will devastate all those who knew him. I know this family's agony as I too am on the difficult journey as a police survivor. My son Larry Lasater of the Pittsburg Police Dept. was fatally shot this past April. Your loss is immeasurable. Please know that our entire family grieves with you and that you will be in our thoughts and prayers. It is tragic that another family has lost their loved one when he was only trying to protect and serve. Deputy Graham's valor, bravery, and sense of duty will be remembered forever. I am also praying for the taxi driver who lost his life while trying to help Deputy Graham. He too is a hero. This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Deputy Graham gave to the community of Pima County, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made in the line of duty.
