Although I did not know Officer McBride, it was with great sadness that I heard of his untimely death. It always touches us deeply when one of our own members is injured or dies in the line of duty.

I send my thoughts and condolences to Officer McBride's loved ones and I will honor his memory and service to MPD.

Jim was a college classmate and friend of mine for several years. His dedication to the District of Columbia was unparalleled among the "transplants" I have met (he was originally from MA). Before joining MPD he worked for the DC Emergency Management Agency, and displayed a zeal and enthusiasm seldom seen among public servants. Unfortunately we lost touch before he joined MPD, but by all accounts he was just as committed to police work. He was very bright, had a lot of potential, and will be sorely missed.

May God bless all of you at this very difficult time and may you find the strength to go forward always knowing he is watching over all of you!!!! Thank you for your service Officer McBride.

James, it is definately no surprise that you were rookie of the year in 2004. I remember the first time you rode with me and I was training you. Ha, the fact that you wanted to do all the work and do some "Police Related" work is of no surprise. And though I did not convert to a "Trekkie" like you tried to get me to, our debates were hilarious to say the least. You were and are an EXCELLENT Officer, and I wish that I could say this to your face but I can not. Alot of people are going to miss you James. First District will never forget you.

Rest easy brother.......

I was a cop in New York City for 5 years and now I work with James (Craig's) father. My heart goes out to his family and friends in this horrible time. And to his fellow officers, I feel your pain as I did when I lost friends in the line of duty. Remember that while he is gone, you are still family and you need to support his family as though they were yours.

God Speed Craig McBride. Though I didn't know you personally, we were brothers. I look forward to meeting you on the other side.

Former NYPD Officer
