Reflections for Detective Terry Lee Melancon, Jr.

Hey my baby,

Just wanted to say that I Love You so very much. Its so hard to believe that 3 years ago today, we were just getting back from the cruise and so happy together. You couldn't wait to get back to your house and cook for me, and surprise me with a birthday cake. I miss you so much Terry. Your family...especially Kaylan made today so special for me. I cannot wait to see you again someday.

Eternal Love,

Terry,

I miss you so much. My heart hurts more as time goes on without you. I know that I was so blessed to share part of my life with you. I also know that many people live their entire lives, and they don't get to experience our kind of love. It just hurts so much to have to live the rest of my life without you here. As long as I am on this earth, it will remain a mystery as to why you went to Heaven so quickly. Its so hard to understand why you, Pat, and Mark all had to leave us so suddenly. I agree with the Chief...God wants the best there with Him. Forever thinking of you.

Eternal Love,

Lynn

Terry,

It's your FTO, Higgy. I miss you making jokes and trying to mess with me about working out. I know you are sitting there with Mark smoking a cigar and reflecting on things. I miss both you guys and I can't wait to join you. Save one of those cigars for me and I'll be home to join you one day before you know it. Losing you guys broke my heart, but I know I will see you both again and that gives me hope.

T,
I continue to miss you each and every day. I agree with Lynn when she said is doesn't get easier as time passes. I think you just learn to live with grief. I know why God chose you Terry but it is so hard to live with out you. The girls miss you and I wish you could be here to watch them grow. Amelia is turning 4 tomorrow. You are not there to say "Amelia, why are you so cute?" We miss you Terry. Be with us. Be with Kaylan. She needs you. Love always, Lacey

HAPPY THANKSGIVING MY BABY!!! I LOVE & MISS YOU SO MUCH...LIKE ALWAYS. I had a great time with your family today...I KNOW you were with us. I am so GRATEFUL for the "signs" you continue to give us...especially when we need them the most! They are a constant reminder of the thin veil that exists between Heaven and earth. It was so apparent that you and Jonathan were there with Alison and I for the C.O.P.S WALK...Thank you! And then again, right on time, you are in Rockland, Mass...giving your girl a sign! All I can say is WOW! Thanks for watching over my RPD friends they are awesome...you already know that! I LOVE YOU...I AM FOREVER THANKFUL FOR YOU!

ETERNAL LOVE,

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Hey Terry,

Your mom came and spoke at the school I'm working at the other day. I'm sure you were so proud of her! I felt honored to introduce her as my special friend and as your mother. She did a great job and had a tremendous impact on the kids and staff. Its a week later and people are still coming up to me and telling me how they were touched by your story. Your legacy will live on forever through your family and friends. Your love for Christ continues to live on and change the lives of so many lost souls. Please keep Lynn and all of your family safe and continue to show them your loving prescence. Be with Lynn as she trains to go and walk for you in DC. I know you're so proud of your baby!!! Don't forget to tell "J" hi for me and let him know how much I miss him!

Love you,
Ashley R.

I Just wanted to let you know I continue to pray for your family and friends. Your Mom wrote a wonderful book, and I've shared it with so many people. It really hit home for me. My faith became stronger, and I hope to have your Mom sign my copy of the book. Thank you for giving her the strength to share your story.

Hey My Baby,

Friday, August 10th at 3:16pm made two years since you entered Heaven. It's crazy how different time has effected me since that day. Somedays feel like you were just here, and others feel like an eternity since I have seen your gorgeous smiling face. Those who have said that it gets easier with time obviously never lost anyone truly special to them. I miss you more and more as time goes on. I hate being stuck here everyday without you. My hope is in KNOWING that we have all of eternity together. That knowledge is what gets me through everyday. I'm so thankful for ALL of the ways you continue to let us know that you are here and aware of everything. We were so BLESSED for being able to share a part of our earthly lives together. And I know that "this separation is only an instant in the eternity of love we share ". What an AMAZING day that will be when I can see your smile again and hear your laugh. Please continue to bless us with your loving presence and little signs. You have also blessed me with your incredible family and friends...I'm so thankful for all of them. Your best friend, Jimmy, has truly become one of my best friends. I'm also thankful for the wonderful friends I have made during these past two years. If only the circumstances of our friendships were different. Terry, not a day goes by that I don't think about you and miss you. Forever thinking about you until I see you again.

Eternal Love,

Lynn
