They will say the man who did this was "crazy" and may try to get him not to stand trial. Isnt anyone who shoots an officer crazy. May he pay the ultimate price for his horrible crime. May the lord be with the family and the co-workers as they try to understand this. Please know you will NEVER be forgotten.

I find myself getting extremely angry when I read about these worthless cowards who sneak up on some unsuspecting peace officer and gun him down, while he is trying to help people. This monster must pay. Dan, thank you for your service for helping people while in this honerable proffesion, now it is up to us to ensure this criminal pays for this senseless act. May God bless you and your family.

To the family of Officer Nels (Dan) Niemi, San Leandro PD, and everyone who had the priveledge to know him, please accept my sincerest respect for the sacrifice Officer Niemi accepted in being a Peace Officer.
No words will make your loss feel better but please know that while TOO MANY officers die every year, many more see the Fallen Officers' courage and ultimate sacrife and happily step up to the plate to make our communities a better place to live and fill the vacancy. The Fallen Officers' will never be forgotten, Officer Niemi will never be forgotten but rather they live on as true HEROS!
I never met Officer Niemi, but I bet he was an wonderful husband, father, and fellow law enforcement brother! Rest In Peace...

Dear Niemi family - your father/husband gave his life for a noble cause which few will ever truly understand. And though this act in itself was so senseless, he was part of something much bigger. You will miss him, but he will always be with you. Let his memory lift you up - he would not want you to be sad. I wish I could have known him - to talk about how he got his name. Perhaps we had many things in common besides our name and profession. I grieve with you for your loss. Please accept my deepest sympathy.

To the L.E. community: Remember the noble and honorable cause for what you do - beyond the politics and senselessnes. Keep in mind the sacrifice of this fallen brother and work with integrity and zeal.
