Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Owen David Fisher

You were always like an older brother to me. I will always be grateful that i got to know you as well as did. Owen, you were a huge part of our family. you were an honorary Anderson. You were the only person to carry a gun 24/7 but you couldn't even take a fish off your hook when we were up north. We all love you, and you will never be forgotten.

Fish- It is still hard to believe that you have been taken from us so soon. It seems like yesterday we were still in the academy dreaming of the day we would graduate and become officers. I know how proud you were to be working in Flint the city you loved. I got a tattoo of you badge number yesterday just a little reminder of your ultimate sacrifice. I know you will be watching over all of us down here as we take over your watch. You are missed and loved Bro.

Officer Fisher,

I learned of your sudden death by your academy Drill Sergeant and was deeply moved. As a fellow officer and WSCC Academy Drill Instructor, I pray for you and your family. My fiancé, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. Dennis was a Deputy Sheriff with the Davis County Sheriff's Office in SE Iowa. Dennis died doing a job he loved, just as I'm sure Owen did. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Owen be the last to die this way.

Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Officer Fisher's family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out to you all, especially to his fiancee. No one can truly understand the pain of our loss until they've walked in our shoes. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through these tough times, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Just know that my thoughts are with you and that you are not alone in your "journey". Should you ever need anything please do not hesitate to contact me. (Dennis' department will also always know how to reach me.)

As a fallen officer "survivor" and a friend, please accept my condolences on behalf of myself and the McElderry family. I never got the opportunity to know Owen but, I am certain he was well respected and well loved. Owen will live on in the hearts of all the lives he touched. You were all lucky to have had him be a part of your lives, even for a short time. I pray that Owen will continue to watch over us all as only he can.

Thank you Officer Fisher for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please say "hello" to my fiancé Dennis for me.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

O-We are all better people for having known and loved you. My boy, you are one of the special ones, and always have been. Your boy Pete and I keep saying how this city, and this life, just isn't seem the same without you in it. I love you, man. You are forever our friend, forever our brother, and will be forever in our hearts. I look forward to the time when I will see you again on the other side.
RIP.

My thoughts and prayers are with Owen's family and friends. I will miss seeing him around. He deserves every tribute paid, every honor given, and surely he is victorious now as he sits in a place where there is no pain, tears, or saddness of any kind. Someday we will be with Owen again. God truly said to Owen, as Owen stepped through Heaven's gates, "Well done, good and faithful servant... Come and share your master's happiness!" Matthew 25:21

Upon the markers of their graves
Our heroes etched in names we save
For all the life they gave with pride
To keep the peace within life's stride

To honor serve and do their best
To keep us safe through any quest
They gave up what was theirs to share
Their spirits shall be always near

No fear within the hearts and minds
To keep us safe within our times
The glory that is ours to see
Those special hearts of bravery

They have walked where no man dare
Their lives in danger with no care
For they have given all they could
For their courage we have stood

In awe of every one who gave
His life for others who they saved
So we will know their contribution
Their firm resolve and resolution

For those they left with hearts so broken
In every whispered word that's spoken
We bow our heads in confirmation
In every word life's revelation

Those who stand within their shoes
Will follow courage as they choose
And give to all the best they had
They carry on with spirits glad

We will know that they walked through
With colors bright and hearts so true
No Island stands alone they say
For heroes they are born this way

Protecting those with loyalty
A glimpse of so much royalty
Within the years of courage bound
These officers have earned their crown

Upon the earth we shall remember
The special goals and all their thunder
That proves a hero came our way
Who left their hearts on earth to stay.

Somebody killed a policeman today,
and a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
with counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
and spend many long, lonely nights.
The beat that he walked was a battle field too,
just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
to his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
a cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
and he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call, of himself gave his all,
and a part of America died.

RIP Officer Wilson and thank you the ultimate sacrfice that you paid, and the great job you did as a police officer in Flint,MI
Rest In Peace

Owen,
i haven't seen you in several years although I used to babysit you sometimes. The last time I saw you you were playing ball on Norbert st. by your Mom and Dad's house. I used to live on Norbert. I didn't live in the neighborhood anymore but I remember thinking how you were getting so big. I babysat your sister a few times too. Your Mom and Dad are such nice people and I hope they read this and realize that I am sorry for their loss. I heard only really good things about you from my niece and brother who went to the funeral home. I know your at peace.

Fisher, Thank you for your sacrifice. In the short time I got to know you there is one thing that stands out in my mind, and that is that you always called people by their first name. That might not sound like a big deal, but in this business you might know someone for years before you even know what their first name is. Not only were you a dedicated officer, but also a caring friend. You will be missed.

As both Owen's shift supervisor and training supervisor, we had our regular training meeting the night before he died. Owen and his training group were to enter their final phase of training on July 17.

My remarks to him were how much I had enjoyed working around him and I complimented him on a great job during a recent weapon arrest. I wished him luck on his final training phase and with the rest of his career. It was not hard to see the bright future his attitude and ability was going to afford him.

Because we live in a dangerous and fallen world, Owen never got to formally complete his final training phase--but he indeed passed his final test with honor and highest marks.

Thank you Owen for your short but heartfelt service. I will see you again when "God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will exist no longer; grief, crying and pain will exist no longer, because the previous things have passed away. (Rev. 21:4)"

Rest in His grace, brother Owen. As the Master said, "Tetelestai"

I just viewed the photos from your
funeral service. Although this happens much too frequently, each
one is equally sad and heartrending.
You were so young and had so many
unfulfilled dreams and life experiences ahead of you. But you did meet your goal of being a Flint Police Officer and I know that brought you much joy. There is an emptiness now that no one can fill, but Jesus Christ is our Healer and we beseech Him now for restoration and forgiveness.
My heart goes out to everyone who
loved and cared about you, but
especially your fiancee and your
families, both at home and at work.
