Reflections for Reserve Deputy Constable Nehemiah Pickens

I am riding in the Police Unity Tour in honnor of Deputy Nehemiah Pickens this May 10-12, 2006. I wanted to know if any family or officers from his department will be at the candlelight event on Saturday May 13, in Washington DC. If you email me I will tell you about the ride and how we honnor these Heroes. "We ride for those who died".

Thanks Scott

My uncle, Nehemiah Pickens, is greatly missed by all who knew him. He was the type of person that would give his all to anyone who needed him. He loved to be around his family. I would never forget the jokes that he told us and how he used to be so excited when me and my other cousins would do a great job in school; education was important to him. I still laugh when I think about how he used to mess with my aunt. I just want to say to our friends and community, thanks for all that you have done. Your prayers and thoughts are really appreciated. Uncle Nehemiah, we love you and we miss you so much. We know that you are in a better place. Tell Aunt Linda, Grandpa Ocie, Papa, Granny and Uncle Buddy we said hello and we will see them again.

Giving all praise and honor to the most high and mighty God, who is head of my life. It gives me pleasure in knowing my loving cousin. I want to take this time to thank each of you who show(ed,s,ing) concern for the family. However let us not forget July 6, 2005. A day that shook the nation because of lack of knowled. A day that will never be forgotten. A day that will long be cherished. A day when the system CRASHED. Yet as of today. No Answers, No Calles, No Cares, NO NEHEMIAH. The system is still down. I want answers, I want calles, I want the media to tear down the doors of the Just Us System, and get some -------answers. Nehemiah was more than a Deputy, son, husband, father, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend. He Is OUR HERO. Michelle, and Uncle Ray,and the girls, hold your head up, and know that God Can and God Will, in His time. It's hard for me and I know that it is hard for you all too but remember, Never put a question mark, where God has put a period.
Nehemiah thanks for your continued protections...(Angel Watching Over Me)Your Cousin Gwen.

I want to say that in knowing Bro. Nehemiah it was an honor. He was what I would say was trully a brother to me. When the papers and others speak of how he kept a constant smile on his face, it's no lie. The world truly lost a soldier whom I'm sure any who knew him, would also bear me witness, he went out of his way to help when you needed it. We may have lost him, but we will not loose the war against injustice & oppression. His life will not be in vain. To his family and especially his wife Michele, hold your head up and khow that even though Nehemiah is gone you are not alone. May God keep you and Strengthen you. As Salaam Alaikum ( Peace Be Unto You)

To the family and friends of Reserve Deputy Nehemiah Pickens and his fellow officers in the Harris County Constable's Office:

On behalf of our entire family, we wish to extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Deputy Pickens was so tragically killed. Deputy Pickens's valor and dedication to his job will be forever remembered. This was such a horrible incident and I am sure it has altered many lives forever.

May you find comfort in the support and caring of your law enforcement family, and other police survivors. We grieve for you and with you. Our family shares your anquish as our beloved Larry Lasater was killed this past April when shot during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers.

My heart also goes out to the officer who accidentlly shot Deputy Pickens. I hope that you too are healing from the emotional devastation this has wreaked in your life too.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Deputy Pickens gave to his community and the citizens of Texas, and the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on July 5, 2005.

The bible definition of nehemiah [Web Answer] is as followed.
Noun: Nehemiah `neeu'mIu. An Old Testament book telling how a Jewish official at the court of Artaxerxes I in 444 BC became a leader in rebuilding Jerusalem after the Babylonian Captivity - Book of Nehemiah ... Now as a family member of such a HERO, I can define him as an orginator, peacemaker, life of the party, conservative, intellectual, with a strong erge to take care of others and to help. Let us not forget his actions that influences his decisions. He has a natural curiosity, he's enthusiasm, and had a strong family connection that was important intellectual. Precinct 6 became his family some four years ago and now as he went to brag in glory about his family here on earth, he left us with a large family (Pct. 6). Nehemiah's work was never done, and He could never be two or more places at the same time. I know deep in my heart he's missed but I also have come to realize that Nehemiah is now surfing all the areas he's always wanted to be with his wings on. "Angel Watching Over Me." Nehemiah God will take care, victory will be yours, and know that you are One In A Million.

My fiancé, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. Dennis was a Deputy Sheriff with the Davis County Sheriff's Office in SE Iowa. Dennis died doing a job he loved, just as I'm sure Nehemiah did. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Nehemiah be the last to die this way.

Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Reserve Deputy Pickens' family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out to you all, especially to his wife. No one can truly understand the pain of our loss until they've walked in our shoes. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through these tough times, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Just know that my thoughts are with you and that you are not alone in your "journey". Should you ever need anything please do not hesitate to contact me. (Dennis' department will also always know how to reach me.)

As a fallen officer "survivor" and a friend, please accept my condolences on behalf of myself and the McElderry family. I never got the opportunity to know Nehemiah but, I am certain Nehemiah was well respected and well loved. Nehemiah will live on in the hearts of all the lives he touched. You were lucky to have had him be a part of your lives, even for a short time. I pray that Nehemiah will continue to watch over us all as only he can.

Thank you Reserve Deputy Pickens for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please say "hello" to my fiancé Dennis for me.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)
