Reflections for Reserve Deputy Constable Nehemiah Pickens

My heart goes out to the officer that was shot and killed and the officer who shot and killed him. It is a tremendous tragedy to have an officer killed by friendly fire. May god protect all of you who protect and serve. YOU ALL ARE IN MY PRAYERS!!!

Man Oh Man. We are faced with so many situations in a days time. I feel that this one has left many with sadness. I know that Police Officers have to stand by the choices that they make. Constable Pickens I salute you and the decisions that you made. I Honor you. To the Officer on the other end, I salute you too. I know that this situation will leave many people guessing. But to those that are left to figure out this mess, remember from your desk from your paperwork from your days to analize that this was a split second decision. I hope God will lay his hand on all those that were effected by this. I know as a member of the Law Enforcement community and a brother of the Badge, Today I cried. God Speed...Russ

The loss of an officer is never easy. To have it come by the mistaken hands of a fellow officer is hard to even imagine, much less understand. I hope the families of Deputy Pickens and the other Deputy involved can somehow give each other strength. My heart goes out to all involved. Hopefully, forgiveness can somehow be attained.

I can not imagine a worse scenario: a fine reserve officer loses his life by friendly fire from an officer having to make a split second decision that will now haunt him forever. I am so sorry for the family of Officer Pickens and for the officer who fired those shots. May God grant his grace to everyone involved. Officer Pickens is no less a hero due to the tragic circumstances of his death-he leapt to the aid of fellow officers, trying to lend a hand. God bless you all!

It's always especially difficult when we hear that one of our own paid the ultimate sacrifice by one of our own. Unfortunately accidents sometimes happen no matter how hard we train and try to avoid them. May you rest in peace knowing you will not be forgotten, and may the Officer's involved find a way to deal with the pain they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.

From our family to yours, rest in peace. May God give your family strength to get through these difficult times. My friend you are in a place of PEACE. To the Deputy that shot Nehemiah: In law enforcement we are faced with SPLIT second decessions, may God give you strength to get through this difficult time. Do not second guess yourself, you did not know he was an Officer, you feared someone's life was threatened and made a SPLIT second decession to stop what you thought was a threat. May God give you and the family of Nehemiah strength and courage to get through this.

TO: The family; loved ones; friends and department members: A POLICE OFFICER’S PRAYER:--- O, gentle Lord ! Keep the day/night watch with me. As I begin my tour of duty, I ask your protection from all mental, physical and spiritual harm. Sustain me with the knowledge that I am doing your work, endeavoring to keep peace among your people. Help me to be just as I enforce the law without prejudice or favor to anyone. May I be courageous but not reckless in carrying out my duties. Let me respond to all calls with haste realizing that so many are dependent upon me for life and safety. Support me with your consoling power when I am tempted to think no one really cares and that I am taken for granted. Sustain in me the conviction that so many thousands do care and are grateful for my presence. Grant that I may be loyal to my partner and my fellow officers, and that I may back them up effectively when called upon for assistance. Lord, I ask that I may return safely, after my tour of duty, to my loved ones and those who love me. I pray that I may be a good and honorable police officer; and after my tour of duty is over here on earth, may I enjoy the peace and happiness of heaven that you have promised to those who serve you well. AMEN. *** REST IN PEACE ***
