To Gunny's Family,
In the short time I had the privilege of knowing Gunny I met a man that had left a lasting impression. He was a outstanding Marine and I know he was a outstanding Deputy. My thoughts are with you and he will be missed but not forgotten.
Gunny,
Your legacy will live through your family and every other life that you have touched. We will meet again one day. God rest your soul and may you have fair winds, following seas and always remain semper Fidelis.

To the family of Deputy Gariepy -
I am a Federal law enforcement agent and a bicycle rider in the Police Unity Tour. The PUT's mission is to raise public awareness for officers killed in the line of duty and to provide financial support for the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial. "We ride for those who died." I wanted to let you know that this year I am dedicating my ride this year to Deputy Gariepy.

In addition to our annual 250 mile bike ride from Chesapeake, VA to Washington DC, I'm going to be doing an additional ride from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Brunswick GA to Chesapeake VA and then on to DC. I'll start my ride on May 1st and arrive with over 500 other Police Unity Tour riders on May 12th. I'll average over 80 miles a day. Its going to be very hard - I am definately not as prepared as I should be for this kind of exertion. I want to let you know that every stroke of my bike pedals will be dedicated to Deputy Gariepy. He is my inspiration and honoring him is what will drive me forward toward DC.

I am truly sorry for your loss. From all that I have read about Deputy Gariepy he was an outstanding officer, a respected marine, and a very missed friend, father, and husband. I am going to send a letter to you today through the Sheriff's Department, but if you want to contact me sooner, I can be reached at [email protected].
Sincerely,
Lynn Gannon

I just learned from a former Marine friend of this tragic loss. Ssgt. Gariepy, as I new him was my platoon sergeant when I was stationed with him in Hawaii. He was a great leader and always inspired the junior troops learn more and succeed in life. I remember when he arrived like it was yesterday. He was coming from the drill field and expected all Marines to act like Marines. Me, being the doc for the platoon got to know Ssgt. Gariepy well and we became friends quickly. I will definetly miss this fine gentleman. My deepest and most heart felt condolences to his family and to the law enforcement community.

Very respectfully,
Paul Mauricio

To Deputy Greg Gariepy and his loved ones:

On this the ninth month after your tragic death, please know that your memory is honored and revered today.

My heart is still with your family and I look forward to meeting them in Sacramento and/or D.C. You’re all in our thoughts and our prayers.

Greg, you rescued us, saved our possessions, our lives and our families. You are one of the rare heroes among us. You were always there for us in the most traumatic moments of our lives. No matter when we called, we just expected that you would come and do whatever it took to help us, and you always met our expectations. Your selflessness and dedication are awe-inspiring.

This world, this country, your community truly are better places because of you. To have lost you is a great tragedy, an irreplaceable, immeasurable loss for society. We are grateful for and to you, and honor you for all you did for us day in and day out whether you received a word of thanks or praise.

Rest in Peace, Sheriff Greg Gariepy. I am so humbled by your valor and courage.
