Having been in Northumberland County for my uncle's burial at Morattico Baptist Church cemetery the day before Deputy Sanford's death, and with my family connections to Virginia's Northern Neck, the Deputy's death hit me hard. I join my friend Matt Stamm in expressing my sincere condolences to Deputy Sanford's family and to all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him. To the family and friends of Deputy John Sanford Jr. and his fellow deputies. I wanted to extend my deepest condolences on behalf of my family for the grievous loss you sustained when Deputy Sanford was tragically killed. You are in my thoughts and prayers. May you be comforted and embraced by the circle of love and support you will receive from the law enforcement community, and other police survivors. This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service John gave to his community and the citizens of Virginia, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made in the line of duty. His dedication to his work will be forever remembered and his memory honored.

I would also like to commend the deputy who risked his own life to get John out of the car. You are also a true hero.
May God have granted you peace in the aftermath of this awful tragedy.
