Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Mariano "Rocky" Lemus, Jr.

It will be one year that you were called away from duty. Thank you for your dedicated service to law enforcement. You will never be forgotten by those that love you. You are a true hero. Keep watch over your loved ones and those still out on patrol. Wrap your wings around those who have been left behind to grieve and help ease their pain. You have not been forgotten.

To the family and friends of Deputy Rocky Lemus and his fellow officers in the Orange County Sheriff's Department:

On behalf of our entire family, we wish to extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Deputy Lemus so tragically lost his life. I do not believe that the general public ever considers the risk to officers by duty related illness.

His dedication to his job will be forever remembered as will his valor. It is obvious from reading the reflections that Deputy Lemus was well respected by his peers and a mentor to many as a field training officer.

May you be comforted by the support and caring of your law enforcement family, and other police survivors. We grieve for you and with you. Our family lost our beloved Larry Lasater when he was fatally shot this past April during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers, so we know the anquish you are experiencing. Please know that the brotherhood and sisterhood of law enforcement will be by your side on each step of the journey ahead of you.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the many years of service Deputy Lemus gave to his community and the citizens of Florida, and the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on May 6, 2005.

Rocky and I were partnered in the Lake County Vo-tech Police Academy. That is where I first met him. It was not an easy ride getting through, but we helped and supported each other, and we made it. We found out that were had kids the same age, and they are still friends to this day. Rocky always made me laugh, and when our families got together, it was always a big party, even though it was just 6 of us. You're 10-7 now my friend, but you will ALWAYS be 10-8 in my heart.
Until we 56 in HEAVEN, REst In Peace....

I would like to offer my deepest sympathy to Deputy Lemus' family, friends and co-workers. He is a hero for his dedication and committment to his community. To you all, the days ahead are extremely difficult. I hope you find some comfort knowing you do not have to go through this alone. Unfortunately, a loss of this magnitude is all too familiar to me and my family. From my family to yours, our prayers and thoughts are with you. God Bless.

In my years of service here I never met Deputy Lemus - my knowledge and recollection of Rocky's career in this agency is by his sterling reputation only. By all accounts there has not been a finer trainer of new recruits, better squad mate, or more devoted family man to be found anywhere. My deepest condolences to the Lemus family and my agency brethren.

Every LEO tries to prepare themselves for that one encounter which may either define or end their career. However, no level of physical fitness or proficiency at the range can prepare you for the battle Deputy Lemus fought so valiantly. We train to look for weapons and try to swing the odds into our favor, but my mental preparation now more than ever also includes exposure risks. For this added awareness I thank you, Rocky - I only wish I could thank you in person.

Rocky's long ordeal and sacrifice will not be in vain. As time goes forward, we never have to look back to remember him...just look up and you'll see him smiling down upon you. Rest easy, brother Lemus - we have the watch.

To the family, friends and co-workers our prayers are with you. I wish there was something that we could do to ease the pain, but as we all know there is nothing. The only thing that kept coming up while we were going through our nightmare was how much Clint loved being an Officer. I bet Rocky loved being a Sheriff.

Deputy Lemus your family will miss you everyday, but we will never forget you.
Look Clint up for me tell him we miss and love him.

I wasn't lucky enough to know you personally, but I've heard enough stories to know that you gave everything you had to this job and this community. It is Deputies like you who make me proud to wear this patch on my sleeve and this star on my chest. I thank you for your sacrifice, Sir and I pray for your family. You will not be forgotten.
