Reflections for Police Officer Tommy Edward Scott

Officer Tommy Scott was not only a fellow officer but a friend and a brother in blue. God must have had a need to call Tommy home, because I know that he's on patrol in the streets of heaven. And heaven is a much safer place today because he is there.
Rest in Peace Tommy.

Sgt, Daniel Vaughn
LAX Police Dept.

Tommy, I will remember you as an honorable man and a great friend. You earned the respect of all the officers you worked with. You had such a special way about yourself. To know you was to love you. You were a perfect gentleman. We will miss your sweet smile and your great attitude. Much Love My Brother.

"Somebody killed a policeman today, and a part of America died..." is what the poem read when I was a young cop in late 60's. It applies so today to the fact that a young Brother Officer made the supreme sacrifice in order to uphold what we all hold sacred. Prayers for the Scott Family and for his Department. Rest in Peace.

I was moved by all of the reflections about Tommy Scott. He was the personification of Community Based Policing and is mourned by an incredibly diverse family - law enforcement, the aviation community, local residents and anyone who ever shook his hand.

As a Field Training Officer, he leaves a lasting legacy in a number of police agencies, as he worked with many officers from many departments.

These words by Rudyard Kipling seem to fit Tommy's legacy as a FTO:

"Yet from his life...new life springs
Through all the hosts to come,
And Glory is the least of things
That follow this man home."

Many times we ask"Why?" and later we question the motives of the suspect, and the tactics of the officer in each loss.the sad reality is that this is life, we lose and we lose often. The bravest, the best, and the most honorable of us die , and the answers are never satisfying.I pray , and not in vain, that Tommy's sacrifice will not go in vain, his love for others and desire to be strong for the weak, helpful to the lost, and friendly to the friendless, will last forever. Please take the time to remeber the fellow officers many of you have lost, and spend each day greeting your fellow officer, deputies, agents, and patrolmen. Say the things that matter while you are together, not when they are gone. God bless....
