Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Larry Randolph Cox

It's hard to believe almost two years have gone by. Everyone is getting ready for the "Washington" trip, something no one would have thought about doing two years ago. And yet here we are planning a second trip. People think we are starting to forget about you, but we aren't. Greenlawn is well patroled. We do miss you.

April 7, 2007

Well, we are coming up on 2 years. Where has the time gone? Where have all the people gone? People really do change and forget things, dont they? I never thought that I would see the day when you could go thru this little town and not hear a Larry Cox Story. I dont want people to forget you. I want them to remember the good times and the bad. I dont want anyone to forget anything about you or what you stood for. I wish we could have a "vigil" more often to "remember all who gave all." Matter of fact I wish a lot of things now, that I never thought I would wish for before. I want to go back in time and say a lot more things to a lot of people. Some blunt stuff needed to be said to some but I think some people needed encouragement. I wish for hind-sight more and more. I wish people could realize that when it is their time its just that, their time. They better be ready in a lot of ways, you know what I mean?

There is really no purpose in my signing my name to this, anyone that knows you or me knows who I am. So I will just sign off with saying how much I miss you and that I will hold your mom and dad in my prayers. I pray that your son, Evan and your wife will always hold their heads high and scream to the world that you are not forgotten and how important you still are to so many. Me included.

Hey. I just wanted to drop a line and say hi. I havent talked to you in quite sometime, sorry for that. Not that I havent wanted to, but I felt it best to just leave it alone. I still think about you all the time. I just cant believe that it has been this long already. It still doesnt seem possible.

I listen to the scanner quite often and it always reminds me of something about you. Sometimes, I think about you and Eric both. Do you remember the night that "Ronnie" wanted you to call him a crab? He was so drunk he kept asking for a crab instead of a cab? That was so funny. We got a good laugh out of it just the same, didnt we?

Please keep a close eye on everyone. I know the department will never heal from this, but I pray that all of us have learned something and maybe get a positive gesture out of it somehow. I dont think I will ever find anything positive but I hope that some day we will. I wont hold my breath though.

Well, I better get off of here. Ill be down by the end of the week.

Well here we are, Christmas Day. May God watch over your family, friends and co-workers. I pray that each and every one of them (us) make it home to their families so that no other family has to suffer like yours has. Your brothers in blue are making you so proud everyday. They each hold their heads high and carry on daily routines as best they can.

There was a newspaper article the other day about Julie and the kids. Please watch over her and help her to get more and more comfortable in her D.A.R.E. job. According to the kids she is doing a wonderful job. Im glad she got the position. I think she is perfect for it. She seemed to just fit in and make "the transition" flow. We all know how much you put your heart and soul into the kids and they deserve the best.

I decided to not write on here anymore but felt compelled to tell you Merry Christmas just the same. I did put up a Christmas tree this year for the first time since you have been gone and my blue light is still up.

Talk to ya later.

Hey Marthe
I know you saw the court proceedings. Finally a guilty plea and like the Chief said "Justice will Prevail" and it did.
Your entire family is amazing with their courage, strenght, and faith through this hellish ordeal.I know you are very proud of them all and they are so very proud of you. I want you to know that you have not been nor will ever be forgotten and are missed by so many people. This place will never be the same but has evolved and will continue to do the work at hand. Rest in Peace Brother.

To the Cox family,
May you now begin to heal. I hope you all have a Merry Christmas. Larry will be with from up above. God Bless you all!

Dear Larry,
I so much wanted to leave messages on this website but because we had a trial coming up in 2007 was advised not to submit anything but Friday, December 8th, 2006 we went to court and heard JP agree to the charges that he killed you and the judge sentenced him to life in prison without a chance of parole. He had been on America's Most Wanted several weeks in a raw and was on the FBI's top ten most wanted.

I wrote a poem for you on the one year anniversary (4-21-06) and it is as follows:

OFFICER LARRY RANDOLPH COX

May 31st, 1960
Was a special day as can be,
Along came our firstborn
And we were proud as you could see.

His name was Larry
And was really a delight,
Number one son
Was quite alright.

He gave us so much joy
And loved us with pride,
Happy to be part of the world
And took it all in stride.

He walked and talked
As you could see,
And helped our community
To be drug free.

No more drugs
He wanted to see,
So he taught the children
To learn with ease.

As the clocks ticked,
We did not hear,
The Death Angel say,
"I am near".

How little did we know,
That this would be the day,
The Death Angel would take
Our dear son away.

On that dreadful Thursday evening
One year ago
Never did we think
That we would have to let you go.

April 21st a day we will not forget,
And we are trying not to be upset,
We are sorry for the act,
But trust us we will get the facts.

She came that day,
Spoke not a word,
Took our dear loved one
Away with her.

It took us a while
To understand,
That this was a part
Of God's Plan.

As you live on in your
Heavenly Home,
May your earthly memories
Live on and on.

I'm sure if you knew
This was the day
You's day, "Never fear,
I'll see you some way."

You loved the D.A.R.E. kids
Without a doubt,
And hope they keep on learning
What drugs are all about.

And keep their lives as straight
As can be,
As there is still a lot of work
To be done you see.

Carry the torch
As one might say,
Cause you will not have
A chance another day.

God gave us life
And can take it away,
But we will live for Him
Until we go to our grave.

We thank your police buddies
One by one,
And hear of their stories
About the kind things you have done.

We thank the community
From the bottom of our hearts,
And hope they know
We appreciated everything right from the start.

Pictures, mementos, and bracelets
They have given,
May God richly bless them
As He looks down from Heaven.

As we move on without you dear,
You know there'll be some tears
God will wipe them for us to see
All the kind blessings and eternity.

You would be proud of Evan, you son, as he got a trophy for Zane Trace Boys Varsity Soccer Junior Vasity Most Improved Player this evening at the soccer banquet. He was not going to play when the season began but Coach Gary Blumberg encouraged him to. At the season preview at Unionoto he broke his arm to he was out for a while and really missed playing. He is getting A's on his report and has a girlfriend. You would be very proud of your son. He has been not problem at all since you left. He does miss you a lot but is adjusting quite well. The Police Officers have been very good as they encourage him to have fun and they like to tease him and he in return. Chief Jeff Keener and the entire Police Department and the community have stood behind each of us; there is not a week goes by that someone does not check to see if we are doing all right or if therey is anything we need. What a great City we live in.

At the COPS Parent's Retreat the past two years I have met some fine parent's of fallen officers and it is a joy to talk with each of them. It is nice to have someone to talk with that knows exactly how you feel. Each case is different but the love of your child is still the same.

Yes, I am still getting up at 6:00 AM but really do miss that 6:50 AM call from you.

Glad to have talked with you a while.

Love and Blessings,
MOM

You can rest again!!! It just amazes me how some dirt bag can be allowed to live!!! I hope you gets what he deserves behind bars, and he doesn't get a chance of a future like you were not given!!!!!! And I hope they put away the people who aided this jerk they are just as guilty!!!!!! Let JUSTICE prevail!!!!!

October 22, 2006

I am so glad that the despicable thug who brutally murdered Officer Cox has been recaptured. I recently spent time with Officer Cox's mother at the COPS Parents' Retreat and we shared tears and memories of our beloved sons, each named Larry, each shot and killed on duty in April of 2005.
The escape of Parsons was understandably weighing heavy on her mind and I am thankful that Parsons is back where he belongs. I hope that the citizens of the State of Ohio will give Officer Larry Cox, his family and friends, and fellow law enforcement officers the full measure of justice that they all deserve for the horrific crime which took his live and forever changed the lives of all who care about him.

Good job for all the hard work in tracking down and recapturing Parsons. Your badges shine even brighter today.

Well they caught him. I heard about you all over the news. I am related to Bryan Hurst. He was shot and murdered in a bank robbery in January of 2005. When I heard about your story it intrested me and brought tears to my eyes. I want to be a police officer when I get older so I can prove that I can be a hero just like Bryan and you.

October 20, 2006

Officer Cox -
I cannot tell you how loud we cheered when we heard the great news! Thank you for watching over everyone involved and making sure no one else got injured. We hope the process moves quickly now so you may rest in peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family.

October 20, 2006

Larry,

I was at the law complex today with Teresa and your family and friends as we watched them leave with Parsons. They finally caught him and was taking him to Orient to be processed. I was so happy when I heard he had been captured. Now we will be waiting for him to stand trial and pray that justice will be served. I really feel for Teresa and your family for all that they have been through. I really don't know how they held it together. You are still missed as much as ever and always will be.I know that you were smiling down on us as we rejoiced in the capture of Parsons. Hope he pays dearly for what he has done.We love you my friend.Sandy Mowrey 10-20-06

Today October 19, 2006 we are celebrating the capture of a coward. My praise to the officers who never gave up. And a big thanks to GOD that this man will now face his judge and jury. I know you're family and friends miss you and will always hold your memory dear. I never knew you but I know what you stood for as a police officer and you have my respect.

Today they hunted him down and caught the coward!
He is back in custody and will not hurt anyone else.
Thanks for looking over all of the Officer and citizens that were "beating the bushes" looking for this animal.

Truth and Courage.

I don't know who caught him and I don't know how, but John Parson's is in the house. Hopefully everything can now get back to normal and his prosecution will move forward.

October 19, 2006

So glad to see they caught Parsons today! Thinking of all of you!
