Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Trooper Ralph Charles Tatoian

We lost 2 more yesterday. Be with them and the families. I know Deb will be there for them. Help her in this time. SHe is strong, but I know she could use you.

February 8, 2008

I know you are there with her today. Help her find the confidence, she needs you so much. She draws her courage from you. Stay close.

January 28, 2008

Cleaned my guns today and had to think of you cause I know they were not up to your standards. Last week I shared the "Davey Jones" story with a guy fresh out of the Academy, could not help but smile thinking how you always have and had my back.

At the start of a New Year may the love of family and
friends continue to surround all of you. God bless you.

Praises to Love

It is love that brings happiness to people.
It is love that gives joy to happiness.
My mother didn't give birth to me, that love did.
A hundred blessings and praises to that love.

Ralphie,
Please keep an eye on all of us driving during this crazy highway construction. I think about you everytime I get in my car, espcially when I am in North County on 270. I pray for your family this holiday season, I know you are missed so much. You are definitely not forgotten.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

It took me a while but I got it, still not sure what it meant, but I took it as good thing since Miami was as big as Max. I bought the girls Connect Four yesterday, and remembered all the games we used to play. Miss those days.

Please keep him safe, I'm worried. I know you'd tell me to "stop worrying, I'm there." Just have that feeling.
Miss ya.

Ralph, lost an ISP Troop across the river on Sunday morning could not help but think about you. A young kid to and I trained him. Second trainee I have lost and a best friend to this job. Makes me wonder why we do this job. Not really I love this job and would do nothing else, same way you would not have. Tough at times like this. Just once again wanted to acknowledge your courage and willingness to pay the "Ultimate Sacrifice" Much love to you and your family.

Ralphy

It is that time of year again to sight in the rifles and sharpen the knives. I keep planning to drop into your deer camp after opening morning to see your pops and have some evening refreshments. I miss are morning breakfast talks. We would talk for eleven months about last season and on how we were going to prepare for the next season. I remember you naming us the trooper for life club. You would be proud I finally got some stripes. I am sorry I was not there for you that morning. I am sure all the team wishes they could have been there. If you have time on opening morning as the light slowly starts to peek over the horizon calm the breeze and make the leaves extra crisp.

Philippians 1:9-10 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;
Make me strong in spirit,
Courageous in action,
Gentle of heart,
Let me act in wisdom,
Conquer my fear and doubt,
Discover my own hidden gifts,
Meet others with compassion,
Be a source of healing energies,
And face each day with hope and joy.
Peace be with you all.

Sweetheart,
Watch over us, tomorrow will be hard. Deb and the kids are doing well, I'm sure you're as proud of them as I am. Your mom and dad are special people, watch over them. Keep an eye on Mark, every once in a while slap him upside his head to let him know you're watching. Miss you more than you can imagine....
