I received a phone call this morning from a close friend who broke the news to me about Det. Allens death. I want to send my condolences out to his co-workers, friends, ALL Providence Police Officers and especially his wife and two daughters. It breaks my heart each and every time something tragic like this happens as I feel that I lost a brother and close personal friend, even though I did not personally know Det. Allen. My thoughts and prays go out to him and his memory and to his family and friends.

Emily Dickinson wrote the poem "After Great Pain":

After great pain, a formal feeling comes-
The nerves sit ceremonious, like tombs-
The stiff Heart questions was it he, that bore,
and yesterday, or centuries before?

The Feet , mechanical, go round-
of ground, or air, or ought-
A Wooden way regardless grown, a quartz contentment, like a stone-

This is the hour of Lead-
Remembered, if outlived,
As freezing persons recollect the snow-
First- Chill- then Stupor- then letting go-

I know you are remembered as a fine officer, husband and father. Rest in Peace.
