Hey buddy, I miss you so much. We planted a weeping crabapple tree in your memory this weekend on the courthouse lawn. Thought you might like that. A lot of people who love you were there. It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The struggle continues for everyone. I love you. K-

Kurt, you will always be a true inspiration to me. You treated the CNT as "one of the team" when no others did and I will never forget that. I dont know why God chose you that day, I can only guess he needed the best. God Bless you and you will never be forgotten.

Odie-

It's been a month and still not a day, maybe even an hour, goes by, that I don't think of you and your family. The void left behind by your passing has undoubtedly effected the entire community. I have been here many times and will surely check back many more. Not much more can be said of you impecable traits and character, just wanted to let you know you will never be forgotten! We miss you!

Dear Kurt, I always wanted to meet you after our mutual friend Joel Nelson spoke so highly of you. Like all things, I got busy and never got around to meeting you. I know you are in a better place now and everyone I know who met you says there's no way to fill the void left behind by your passing. Stay safe out there guys.

jill adam and preston,
i would like to extend my deep sorrow and condolences for you and the rest of your loved ones. I also would like you to know that in the short time that Kurt had left at Douglas when I started in Dec. '03 your best friend, husband and father was always smiling and always friendly and always had time to talk and see how I was doing in my training. His reputation is such around our agency that his loss of life and personality is greatly and acutely missed. His service and reputation as an officer and individual is something to be valued and used as an example of the balance needed in all our officers lives: bravery
strong sense of justice
willingness to strive for betterment
compassion
openness toward others
faith in mankind

I pray that the suffering you feel at his loss at this time will become courage to remember him doing what he loved and was so good at. He was a great man and did the job and you as his family proud.
God Bless and keep you always

Kurt its hard to find the words to express my emotions. I remember when you started at the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. I had the pleasure of telling you what to do and where to go. You have left a lasting impression on my heart and I know as a wife of a SWAT Officer that you were doing what needed to be done. Your SWAT brother Michael, my husband, has said to me that you will take care of him and that you have only inspired him to train harder and be the best that he can be. He misses you Kurt. You are in his heart and soul forever. We met your SWAT (ERT) Family in Newton. We not only met some wonderful guys but me made some great friends. You have a lot to be proud of. Those guys love you Kurt. We were so impressed with Newton and with the Harvey County Sheriff's Office family, that we thought what a great place to call home. We understand why you took Jill and the boys home. Kurt save us a spot and we will see you there.

As I have read the reflections left for Kurt and look at his picture on this memorial site, I see and hear of a fine man that loved his family, friends, fellow officers and neighbors both near and far and they loved him. My words of sympathy seem so inadequate here - the pain, I know, cuts so deep. I can only pray that the wonderful memories you have of Kurt will give you comfort in time. God bless you and may he bring some peace into your broken hearts.

Kurt, I will never forget your joking threats to "slap a howdy" on someone. We had some good times and good laughs in the training unit. Bless you for your enthusiasm for sharing your knowledge and skills with others. And for the many hours you spent with the Explorers, leaving them a true and lasting impression of your love for them.
No wonder you were so anxious to return to your Kansas home of Newton. The support and love the community displayed

Kurt,

Thank you. I am very fortunate to have met you while you were an instructor at the academy I attended. You taught us how to do the job the right way - with integrity, repsect, honor, and a love for the uniform you so highly represented every day. The world needs more officers and people like you. Thank you for being an inspiration to follow throughout my career. God Bless you and your family. You will never be forgotten.

In loving memory of D.S. Kurt Ford:
Sometimes my heart is just too heavy to be able to write my condolences. I have done some
research on you and discovered what a wonderful, exceptional human
being you were, very much respected by all who knew you. While we don't get to heaven by our good deeds, but thru faith in Jesus, your life certainly
was about serving sacrificially. One
thing I learned about you was that
you didn't shy away from danger and
that you didn't mind taking risks. In fact, they just seemed to spur you
on. You had a tremendous desire to serve and I know the One who put it
there. You answered your calling &
put your gifts to good use. Your death is just such a tragedy for all those left behind. When I think about
what good choices you made and the goals you set for yourself, it is such a sharp contrast between you and the one who chose to end your life; a life of productivity verses a wasted life. He certainly chose poorly. And how does an officer have
the restraint not to return evil for evil?
That I don't understand, but admire. This has left us with a huge void and years to mourn your loss. My heartfelt
condolences to your parents, your
wife Jill and your sons Preston and
Adam as well as other family members, friends, co-workers and all the people who have shed tears for you, whether they knew you or not. You've done good, Kurt. Hopefully, you got to hear those words from Jesus Christ Himself, the Only One whose opinion really matters. May the Lord help all to heal this canyon of grief that we all feel on different levels. God bless.
