Another warrior has been brought home on his shield from battle. Sgt Knight, you are a true warrior and hero. I hope that your department and close friends come to the aid of your family and watch over them as I know you are now doing. It will be a long road ahead for your family and friends. God be with all of you.

I had the distinct pleasure of serving the community of Panama City Beach as a part time officer while serving as a full time Air Force Police Officer. I consider the Beach PD to be part of my family and Sgt Kight was one of the better brothers in that family. Kevin always seemed to brighten whatever haunt he entered, his personality made everyone around smile. I am proud to say I knew this man and will never forget him. I cry for Kevin, Christina, Brandon and my brothers/sisters of the PCBPD. I will shed tears of pain and then of pride for an officer that made the ultimate sacrifice to protect his community. I only wish there was some way to turn back time and be there to help him when he needed protecting like he had for so many people in this world. My heart goes out to his family, I cannot imagine the pain and loss you feel, but know he gave himself to a job he loved for a community he respected. I will miss his smile, his friendly voice and his professionalism. To the members of PCBPD, as a member of your family (once removed) I mourn with you and feel your pain too. I was deeply honored to be part of the procession that saw Kevin off to his new beat. I would like to thank all of the LEOs, family and friends that participated and the peopel of the community that came out to show their respects too. God bless you. Kevin, rest easy, your shift is over you can patrol the streets of heaven now, watch over us. We'll see you soon sarge!

On the evening of the 27th day of March 2005 I prepared for another midnight shift along with many other fellow Officers. An evening that started off very routine but would soon prove to be anything but. As a Police Officer you know your job is dangerous but if you dwell on it you would find it hard to continue. So you mostly put it out of your mind. My shift started out "routine", gathering at the station with my fellow brother's and sister. A short time into our shift something happened that has profoundly effected me to the core of my being. I saw that bolo "Officer Down"......PCBPD Officer shot.Just occurred. Since that night many emotions have ran through my mind. I have asked that question we all ask ourselves"Why?". I have thought to myself "Is it worth this?". I have been asked many times Why I do this job. The pay is low and the risk is all too often high. Most of the time I respond that we don't do this for the money. We do it to make a difference. Sgt. Kight has made a difference. His death is not in vein. Sgt. Kight has left me with a renewed since of purpose. A new appreciation for my family and friends. I attended his funeral. I like to think of it as a celebration of his life. After standing in the rain outside the church and looking around at an endless sea of badges and after making the trip from the church to Sgt. Kight's final resting place and seeing the citizens line the street's I had a renewed spirit. Its being part of the Brotherhood walking that thin blue line together and making a difference that keeps us going. Sgt. Kight you will not be forgotten nor will your family. Your wife and son now have an endless supply of love and support. May God watch over you and protect your family. Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil for thou art with me. God bless you Brother in Blue "never forgotten"

To all of Kevin's family, friend's, and our brothers and sisters with the Beach Police, may you find peace knowing Kevin is with God now having made the ultimate sacrifice to make this world a better place for all of us. I am proud to say that I worked next to Kevin during my tour of duty with the Panama City Beach Police Department, along with a group of other fine men and women. Kevin was the kind of Police Officer that everyone could learn something from. He treated every person with respect, dignity, and comapassion... whether they deserved it or not. My heart goes out to his entire family, the Beach Police, and the residents of Panama City Beach, whom have lost not only a faithful guardian but a wonderful man. To Kevin's son, may you grow up knowing your Father is and always be a hero to all of us. I can only hope to be half the Police Officer Sergeant Kevin Kight was... and half the Father to my own son. God bless you all!

Sgt Kight i did not have the pleasure of meeting you but i have trained with some of your officers years ago in Jacksonville, they spoke of Spring Break and how busy it was. May the person who caused this tragady pay the ultimate price for his crime, may the Lord comfort and be with the familt and co-workers as they struggle to make sense of this horror. Panama City Beach and a greatful nation will be forever in your debt.

To the family, friends, and Department of Sgt. Kight. Nothing anyone can say will stop the pain of losing someone close to you. I lost my best friend on 02/09/2005, Lake County Sheriff's Deputy Wayne Koester.

It helps me knowing in 2nd Corinthians 12:9 Jesus said, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Just trust in the Lord. He will comfort you and never leave you.
