Reflections for Police Officer II William Andrew "Drew" Henley

You were an example to the young and to the older Officers. You will be missed and you will be talked about forever. Rest in Peace Drew.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. He was young, but I know he left his mark on this earth, and has now been called up to higher duty. May you find comfort during this time in knowing that he will be remembered and many are praying for you and his loved ones.
God bless you today and always.

Drew died just after a foot pursuit in which he successfully apprehended a fleeing suspect with warrants on file. I might add, the warrant was actually one that Drew had secured weeks earlier. So Drew truly did get his bad boy...

To Chrissy; thank you for sharing Drew with us. He was one of a kind. Thank you for also for wanting to look out for all of us, as we were trying to comfort you. You were the strongest one of all of us. Your deep trust and love for your husband was an inspiration I will not soon forget.

There are no words to describe how we all are feeling right now. There are many words that I have heard throughout this last week describing what a fine officer, husband, father and friend Drew was. He truly made us all proud to be members of the Suffolk Police Department. Drew will not be forgotten and he will stand next to each of us to serve as our guardian angel as we walk the Thin Blue Line.

"The Thin Blue Line"

There is a line
the color of the sky
on a clear afternoon

There is a line
the hue of the ocean
on a bright sunny day

There is a line
the purest shade of a newborn's eyes
awakening for the first time

There is a line
that protects us from harm
in all we do
whether day or night

There is a line
no one can penetrate
no one can alleviate

There is a line
made of those who choose
to follow a calling many do not hear
and still more do not comprehend

They choose to walk
the path of fear, hate, and mistrust
taken by so few
but marked by so many

And when one leaves this line
they leave a legacy
but the line does not break
for the remaining must still protect

There may be emptiness
a loss, or sadness
but never a hole
not in this line

This line that holds
the ghosts of the souls who have gone
and the souls of the ghosts who will be
The Thin Blue Line

Drew, I was lucky enough to have worked beside you when you first came to the department and were assigned to Dispatch before you were sent off to the Academy. I can still remember the first time I saw you in your uniform and how proud I felt. I talked to you the monday or tuesday morning before you left us, the first time seeing you in months. I'm thankful I was able to see you that one last time.

We all love and miss you, Drew. I'll see you on the other side.

Honest, trustworthy, hard-working, friendly and professional. Henley was all of this and more. He was truly a model officer. I'll miss the times we joked around together my man, and the times you offered words to keep my additude positive when I was down. Godspeed buddy.

C squad isn't the same without you. Miss hearing you on 1-C trying to get into something good. Miss you hunkering down in the shadows of the hot spots patiently waiting for the bad guys to give you just enough pc to pounce on them. Miss having you back me up; you were always there and I always felt safe when you were around. Miss your smile, your laugh, your positive attitude, your enthusiasm for police work, and your zest for life. Miss having an awesome mentor; you were always there to answer any questions, lend a helping hand, to council and to guide.
Its gonna be tough around here for awhile...every street I ride down reminds me of calls we've been on. I do consider myself extremely blessed, however, for the opportunity to have worked with you and will always treasure this time.
Chrissy, thanks for sharing Drew. He always looked out for me on the streets like a big brother. Know that you will always be a part of my family, and take some comfort in knowing you have gained another sister.

With all my love, thanks, and prayers,
Jen

We all loved you here at the Suffolk Police Department and we know that you will be watching us from heaven. Since you are up there with the other "guys and gals" in blue, please say hello to Officer Bunting, Officer Michael "Mikey" Simpkins and Lt. Howell for me. We miss them all. May God continue to bless your personal family and your brothers and sisters here at the department. You will always be in our hearts. GOD BLESS YOU AND MAY YOU REST IN PEACE......

The twelve years of friendship I shared with Drew were far too few. Since 1993 when Drew greeted me aboard Parris Island, he has been a true friend and brother. Through good times and bad Drew was a man you could always count on no matter the situation. He was dear member of our family and like a second Father to my daughter. I thank him for the fond memories and the constant image of his broad smile and love for life. My heart goes out to his always steady wife and to his children and his entire family. They too are and forever will be in our family.
Semper Fi and Rest in Peace Drew..you are truly a beloved brother.

To the Family, Friends, and Co-Workers in your grief and sorrow, words can not change reality, words can only provide a link between we whose hurt is less direct, and you whose hurt is personal and horrendous. Words can help assure you that others care, that you are loved, and that you are not alone...God speed Officer Henley.

To the family, friends and co-workers my prayers are with you. The one thing that I thought about during our nightmare, was knowing that Clint loved being a police officer. He told me the last time I seen him that he had his perfect job. I bet that Patrolman Henley loved his job also.

To the family you will miss William everyday, but we will never forget him.
William look Clint up for me tell him that, I still love him the most. You'll get a big smile from him.
