David,

It’s hard to believe that it’s been over two years, even harder to believe that it’s been over 20 since we attended F.L.E.T.C together. Seems like yesterday that we were both standing in Clark Settles office as he pondered our fates. Thanks for going to Beaufort for me. I don’t think I could have survived that one! You were an inspiration to me at the academy, thanks for the workouts and the encouragement. To say that I was impressed to see your list accomplishments as an Agent would be quite the understatement. You kicked some serious ass! You’re true blue brother, I’ll see you soon.

“And God will wipe all tears from their eyes, and there will be no more death. Neither shall there be suffering, sorrow or pain. For the former things are passed away and He who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new!” Rev 21:4

Special Agent E. Fabian
U.S. Customs Service

May 2, 2007

The agent stood and faced his God, which must have always come to pass.

He hoped his shoes were shining just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, agent. How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To my church have you been true?"

The agent squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint."

"I've had to work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough, and sometimes I've been violent because the streets are awfully tough."

"But I never took a penny that wasn't mine to keep... Though I worked a lot of overtime when bills got just too steep."

"And I never passed a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears."

"If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, but if you don't... I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne where the saints had often trod, as the agent waited quietly for the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now agent. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on Heaven's street. You've done your time in hell."

To Assistant SAC David Gray Wilhelm and his loved ones:

On this the first anniversary of your tragic death, please know that your memory is honored and revered today.

My heart goes out to your family. You’re in our thoughts and our prayers.
I hope that I get to meet you in D.C.

David, you rescued us, saved our possessions, our lives and our families. You are one of the rare heroes among us. You were always there for us in the most traumatic moments of our lives. No matter when we called, we just expected that you would come and do whatever it took to help us, and you always met our expectations. Your selflessness and dedication are awe-inspiring.

This world, this country, your community truly are better places because of you. To have lost you is a great tragedy, an irreplaceable, immeasurable loss for society. We are grateful for and to you, and honor you for all you did for us day in and day out whether you received a word of thanks or praise.

Rest in Peace, Assistant SAC David Grey Wilhelm.

It has been one year that your were called away from duty. You have not been forgotten and are a true hero. Many broken hearts have been left behind, wrap your wings around them and help ease some of their pain. They will keep your memory alive and I hope others will stand with your loved ones and help them through the long legal process that has been going on concerning the one that caused all this pain. You are a hero and will never be forgotten.

D-
I miss you and our almost daily conversations more than ever. Our last conversation we had late the night of March 11, 2005 still rings clear in my head and always will. Although I will cherish it forever, it breaks my heart everyday knowing it was the last one. You were and will always be the 1. Those of us in New Orleans (you called it "the NO") have gone through some rough times recently but I know you are here with us doing what you loved best...upholding the law. Get your SWOL on D.
