Reflections for Master Deputy J. Alex Burdette

Hi Dad,
It hasn’t been easy growing up without you, but I’d like to think that you’d be proud of the woman I’ve become. I have never and will never stop missing you. I know that you would be here if you could have been. A lot has happened in the eighteen years that you’ve been gone. I’ve grown up and I just wish that you had been able to see it. I hope that you’re proud of me, of the things that I have done and accomplished. I wore your cap and gown to my graduation. I wanted you to be there. You might not have been allowed the opportunity to physically be in my life, but you were there in every choice that I made. I go to Clemson now, and I know that you would have loved that. I’ve decided to be a teacher. I’ve also been giving back to the organization that gave so much to me. COPS helped me navigate how to live my life without you in it. And while I wish that there was no need for such an organization to exist, there always will be and I want to be there for those other little girls and boys. I still talk to you when I’ve had a rough day. It helps me feel closer to you. A lot of big events are going to be coming up in my life in the next few years. And I know that you’ll be there with me.

Until we meet again,

Karlee Burdette
Daughter of Alex Burdette

Its getting close to the time of year again! Nicole is hard at it getting the blood drive ready in honor of you. I had another child and as I told you he would be named Alex because of my other sons imaginary friend. Now with the loss of you its that much more special to us. The girls are turning into young ladies! I know you are so proud of them and Nicole. Just know we all still love and miss you dearly! Until we see you again friend!

The State named a section of Highway 81 for you this week. A good turnout for the dedication. Everyone who travels that highway sees the signs.
Again thank you for your service and saving my life.

Master Deputy Burdette,
As another summer draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the time I spent with your wife and girls at camp. I was lucky enough to be the mentor in your older daughter's cabin again this year. What a wonderful, kind and beautiful young women she is. Your daughters did not fail to bring a smile to my face a single day that we were there. Their love for you, their mom and each other is evident. May you continue to watch over them and help guide them through their loss. God Bless

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 7th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Thanks also for giving the gift of life to others through your organ donation.

I pray for solace for all those who love and remember you for I know their pride and pain are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace. Thanks to your family and friends for sharing their memories and devotion to you through their reflections.

Rest In Peace.

Master Deputy Burdette,

I had the honor of spending this past week with your family at COPS Kids Camp. Nicole and the girls are amazing and continue to honor your memory. The girls are confident, friendly and kind and look like their Daddy. The hit of the week for many of the mentors is hearing the girls talk with their sweet southern accent. I know they will continue to honor you, and are so proud of you and your service and sacrifice to the community you served.

May God comfort you and keep you close while you watch over your family and those that continue to serve. God Bless.

I visit the odmp website often and read about the heroes who gave up their lives to protect ours. My husband is a former Deputy Sheriff of Anderson County, SC and he often talks about how much he enjoyed serving the people of South Carolina. Rest in peace Master Deputy Burdette and may God keep your family, friends and co-workers in his loving Hands.
