IF ONLY….

IF ONLY YOU KNEW WHEN I HEAR OF A BURNING HOUSE HOW FEAR RUNS THROUGH
MY BODY, HOPING, PRAYING EVERYONE WILL BE SAFE.
IF ONLY YOU KNEW WHENEVER I HEAR A SIREN, I PRAY. I PRAY FOR YOUR SAFETY AND
FOR THE SAFETY OF THE FAMILY YOU’RE GOING TO HELP.
IF ONLY YOU KNEW WHEN YOU HAVE TO TELL A FAMILY A LOVED ONE HAS DIED, MY
HEART IS SAD FOR THE FAMILY AND FOR YOU.
IF ONLY YOU KNEW WHEN I HEAR A SIREN I WILL BE THE DRIVER PULLING OVER FOR YOU.
IF ONLY YOU KNEW I THEN MAKE THE SIGN OF THE CROSS, PRAY AND HOPE EVERYONE WILL
PULL OVER TOO.
IF ONLY YOU KNEW WHEN YOU WALK IN TO A ROOM, IN YOUR UNIFORM, MY HEART SWELLS
WITH PRIDE AND I THINK OF THE LIVES YOU’VE TOUCHED THAT DAY
AND WHAT A DIFFERENCE YOU’VE MADE.
IF ONLY YOU KNEW WHEN YOU TELL ME STORIES ABOUT HOW YOUR DAY HAS GONE.
HOW YOUR TRIED TO SAVE A LIFE AND YOU DID THE BEST YOU COULD…
AS YOU ALWAYS DO.
IF ONLY YOU KNEW I CRIED WITH YOU.
IF ONLY YOU KNEW HOW I’M SHOCKED AND SADDENED WHEN I HEAR HOW DISRESPECTFUL
PEOPLE ARE TO YOU AND TO THE OTHERS WHO SERVE AND PROTECT
THEM TOO.
IF ONLY YOU KNEW HOW MUCH I RESPECT YOU AND OTHERS FOR THE JOB YOU AND THEY
DO.
IF ONLY YOU KNEW EVERYDAY I PRAY TO GOD TO SEND HIS ANGELS TO WATCH OVER YOU.
IF ONLY YOU KNEW I WORRY WHEN YOU GO ON A CALL, PERHAPS A DOMESTIC VIOLENCE,
NO TELLING WHAT YOU’RE WALKING IN TO.
****DEAR GOD KEEP THEM SAFE!****
IF ONLY YOU KNEW HOW BRAVE I THINK YOU ARE BUT SOMEHOW I THINK YOU DO.

Tom,
I think of you every day. We miss you so much. Its hard to believe its been a year since you left us.
I wrote this poem a few months ago. I want people who read this to know what a great son, dad, husband, and friend you were.

Thomas J. McMeekin Jr.

Thomas John
was my first born son
Watching him being born
was a lot of fun

We didnt know if you'd be
a girl or boy
But we did know that
you'd bring us a lot of joy

Early on mom and i could see the light
We knew that Tom would be very bright

With his little brain
soaking up a lot of knowledge
We knew then that we'd better
start saving for college

Tom gave us such joy
that we had another
Then along came Andrew
your little brother

Tom led by example
and Drew followed his lead
They made parenting easy
they sure did indeed

In grade school
Tom showed talent in art
He also got staight A's
yes he was smart

Tom had a great memory
things came easy to him
He also played sports
but did not like the gym

We went to the beach
where the lifeguard was uncle Jim
He hung around the stand
and Tom looked up to him

Tom wanted to be a lifeguard
so he learned to row and swim
At sixteen he passed the test
He learned alot from his uncle Jin

Tom graduated from Holy Spirit
and went on to Rutgers University
With the law courses he took
we guessed what he might be

Maybe a lawyer or policeman
were a possabiliy
Tom graduated with
an Administrative Justice degree

Tom finally decided on a
law enforcement carrer
Then he took the police test
and waited to hear

He entered the academy
and joined the AC police force
Did Tom finish first in his class
why yes of course

When I needed your help
you were always there
Be it a fundraiser or emergency
Tom didn't care

One fundraiser would
certainly change your life
That's were you met Jen
your beautiful wife

A year or so later
they would walk down the aisle
At St. Nicks with a police escort
it was done in grand style

A short while later
they had the most beautiful child
Little Adria Lynne was born
And we all went wild

I think I will borrow a few lines
from anther poem of mine
"The first we saw her
brought tears to our eyes
That bundle of joy
was a beautiful suprise
With her cute little nose
and her peachy cheeks
She will keep us smiling
for week and weeks and weeks"

Well the weeks turned into months
and the months into years
When Adria did something new
We applauded with cheers

Like mommy and daddy
Adria is very smart
Tom, Jen, and Adria
had gotten off to a good start

Then Tom died tragicly
in a traffic accident
that didn't have to be
This made it so much harder
for his friends and family

To Jen and Adria
Tom was very much loved and needed
Like them there are many of us
who feel really cheated

I miss our one on one time
our little trips to Sams and Lowes
But smile when I think back
To our Burger King woes

I miss your wit and laughter
and the sound of your voice
When we needed an appliance
you would research our choice

I miss your presence
as you walked through my door
It's hard to believe we won't see
your smiling face anymore

Some say it will get better
as time goes on
I know it's still early
but I think they are wrong

I think about you
most of the time
Yes you are never
to far from my mind

Did you make a difference?
why yes a whole bunch
There are a lot of people
who love and miss you very much

The Chelsea Lifeguard Tent
will be named after you
Your name will be at
Chelsea and Atlantic aves too.

Yes Tom made a difference
with his 28 years on earth
I've been impressed
since his first day of birth

You gave up your life
doing the job you did love
Now you're our guardian angel
from high up above

Love Dad

Merry Christmas Tom!
We miss you so much and think about you every day. We really missed you at the family party last week. It wasn't the same without you, especially the yankee swap and hearing your laughter when getting the chance to steal a gift! Adria is growing into such a beautiful little girl and she misses her daddy so much. Please continue to watch over Adria & Jennifer.

Brother McMeekin,

May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
And the rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Respectfully,
You’re Brothers in Blue

Sunny days seem to hurt the most
I wear the pain like a heavy coat
I feel you everywhere I go
I see your smile, I see your face
I hear you laughing in the rain
Still can't believe you're gone....

It ain't fair you died to young
Like a story that had just begun,
But death tore the pages all away...
God knows how I miss you
All the hell that I've been through
Just knowing no one could take your place
Sometimes I wonder,
Who you'd be today.....

Sunny days seem to hurt the most
I wear the pain like a heavy coat
The only thing that gives me hope
Is I know....
I'll see you again someday......

Although I never met you personally, I know you must have been an amazing man and police officer because of how my father (Sgt. Ken Brown) felt about you. When you passed passed it was like reliving my fathers passing all over again. My prayers are with all of your family, I know the pain they are enduring all to well.
I know my father was there to greet you at heavens gate.

Rest in peace....

"And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow, Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings; I will arise and go now, for always night and day
I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore;
While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey,
I hear it in the deep heart's core. "-W.B.YEATS'S INNISFREE ,THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE

Happy Birthday Tommy!
I have been trying to write something on here for months and could never bring myself to do it. I figured today was an appropriate day to do so.
There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about you, I have so many memories from Denny Street, I play them back in my head and look at pictures of us as kids to make me smile.
I just want you to know that you will forever be in my heart and that Nicky & I have a special star in the sky that he points to every night and waves good night to you & blows you a kiss.
I love you Tommy & I miss you so much!
Love,
Cristi

Tommy, you were like the brother I never had. I have so many great memories with you and Jen. You were such a big part of my life. I just wanted you to know that my son will be born in January, and his middle name is Thomas after you..

All our tears have reached the sea,
A part of you will live in me.
I'll never forget the times we had,
Guilty looks I gave you when I was bad.
I'll always think of you as a brother,
A kind of bond I won't find in another.
You, Jen, and Adria are my family,
From day 1, that's how you treated me.
I felt so empty when you went away,
I can't forget the phonecall that day.
You've touched so many people's lives,
It was obvious watching the goodbyes.
Words can't xpress what you mean to us
I wish I could give you one more hug.
So many memories and good days,
Air shows, concerts, and Taco Tuesdays Softball games when you lost and won,
The wives on the side cheering you on.
So many good times that I embrace,
birthdays, weddings, & lifeguard races.
Christmas nights at the Irish Pub,
Fireworks at the stadium.
I see u in "the Cheet", your daughter,
A part of you will live on through her.
You'll be the angel I look up to,
We will always love and deeply miss you

AMAZING GRACE: The Policeman's Tribute

A man in blue has lost his life
in service of the law.
The love that makes this sacrifice
is the greatest love of all.

A police man was killed today,
the reason why I cannot say.
I don't know why he had to die.
The man in blue died for me and you;
we must remember him too.

Flags fly low, let us bow in prayer
for fallen police men everywhere;
and remember this:
that they are missed.
The badge burns bright like an evening star free from a world of war

I just wanted to stay I am sorry for your lost. I also lost my best friend Adam R Fleshner e.o.w 01/13/03 just know that god only takes the best!!

May the lord keep watch between you and me when we are away from each other.' Gen.31:49

To the family and friends of Officer Thomas McMeekin and fellow officers on the Atlantic City Police Department:

On behalf of our entire famiy, I wish to extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered with the death of Patrolman McMeekin. I was saddened to read about the incident that took Patrolman McMeekin's life. In reading the reflections about him, it is obvious he was a bright young officer who was admired and loved by many. His dedication to his family and job will be forever remembered. How sad that he died at such a young age leaving a loving wife and a beautiful young daughter.

My family grieves with you and for you.
In April, we lost our beloved Larry Lasater of the Pittsburg Police Department when he was fatally shot during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers. His first child was born 2 1/2 months after his death. Knowing that all these children have to grow up without their father is so heartbreaking.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Tom gave to his community and the citizens of New Jersey, and the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on March 4, 2005.

I have struggled over the past six months trying to put into words how I feel. I have read what everyone has written over and over again. The love and support that family, friends and colleagues have shown to Tom, Jen and Adria is without comparison. I would like to thank everyone for their endless support. I have been in awe of the Law Enforcement Community. They have shown why this is such a tight knit brotherhood. Tom would have done the same for anyone else. In the last post it was said that Tom will be remembered through Adria’s eyes. I would like to share with everyone something that I wrote back in April. I miss him deeply and know that he is watching over each and every one of us.
He will never be forgotten.

In His Daughter’s Eyes

One who touched our lives
So young I am told
With always a smile
And a heart so bold
He touched our souls
With every meeting
He was always there
With a happy greeting
A Son to be proud of
His pride was abound
His family was his treasure
His feet on the ground
His love for his daughter
Goes without say
Will live on through the years
As she kneels down to pray
His love for his wife
Even though she is grieving
Will always be strong
For this she is feeling
He is watching over us
Even though we think it’s unfair
He will strengthen and guide us
in our time of despair
His smile still remains
He was always so clever
In his Daughters Eye’s
He’ll be with us forever
