Reflections for Corporal Mark David Jones

I met Mark 3 years ago when he went to work for the HPD and thought from the first moment how great of a guy he was.Not long after meeting Mark I met his wife and she is just as great a person.I got to know Mark and about his family thru talking to him when he came into the Waffle House either working or doing security for us.Mark was a person with so many good qualities that I dont know what order to put them into.I remember putting money into the jukebox so I could hear him sing,he was a great singer.I will miss you deeply Mark and you will always be in my heart.I hope they have Waffle House chicken sandwiches in heaven for you.And to Deanna, all my love.

Cpl. Mark Jones; Mark was an inspiration to me, at times being an officer for several years I became reactive instead of pro-active at times, you know that burn out feeling and then you come across an officer like Mark full of passion for the job, I observed him, as I do all officers I work with, and around, he at times made me remember what its all about lighting that fire inside of me as I observed him work, giving me that feeling that I must not give up. I saw alot of myself in Mark, more so as when I was a younger officer I saw the passion in him that I continually strive to hold onto and maintain, Mark was competitive he motivated his officers he was a diamond in the rough a trusted officer, supervisor and man. I saw immediately that Mark had outstanding potential and he would quickly rise up the ranks, I wanted him to take my place as the patrol supervisor on his rise to the top one day, my heart is broken to see that his dreams as well as mine were shattered by this nightmare that I cannot wake myself up from. I didnt hang out with Mark off duty I only known him professionaly, he indeed was a professional I wish I had the opportunity to know him better. The first day Mark drove on patrol I dont think he even had his gun issued to him yet, he was just riding along with me, we had responded to a shooting ending up with a felony take down arrest of the criminal offender who had shot his brother with a shotgun, I thought it would scare Mark off that being his first unofficial patrol with me, I looked at Mark and he burst out shouting loudly, I love it! and I felt like I was looking at myself when I first started out seeing the excited Mark Jones. Mark was never an officer who needed supervison, he was a natural born cop.
Mark had also brought some friends into local law enforcement that he had known previously,Mark must have seen that they had the passion for the job, because I see it now. Thank you Mark as you watch from above in heaven for all you have given to me, Your brother
Staff Sgt. Rick Keefner

P.S. If Mark could read this he would probably find a spelling or grammar error, he had a great sense of humor and he was quite a speller!

Mark, you were a brother to me, and no words can express how much you will be missed. We will look after your family as we know you will be looking after all of us from above. I will never forget our times together, and will miss your jokes and our conversations. Even heaven must be a better place now that you are in it. Semper Fi, Brother. Until we meet again...Neil

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"
