Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Haven Blake Gammill

Stand Brave

Stand brave and hold your head high young deputy, you fulfilled your oath.
To Serve and Protect, without haste you did both.
Wear your badge at your heart and your wings at your side,
The ones left here, will carry with us your heart and pride.
The plan was thought through with precision and skill,
But even the best tactics cannot prepare you for God’s true will.
A famous quote once said “it is not how we die that makes us a Hero, it is how we lived.”
No words were ever spoken so true
This describes the angel we’ve all seen in you.
You lived with compassion and love,
To Heaven you carry them up above.
We are lucky here to have a guardian angel like you,
We will miss you greatly and all that you do.
Stand brave young angel you will fulfill God’s oath,
To protect and serve, you will faithfully do both.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Deputy Gammill's family. Our department recently lost one of our officers, and we have learned how much it means to get support from all over the country, from fellow police officers. The hurt is there, but knowing you are in others thoughts and prayers helps us get through times like these. May God Bless the Gammill family

Saint Michael, heaven's glorious commissioner of police, who once so neatly and successfully cleared God's premisesof all its undesirables, look with kindly and professionaleyes on your earthly force.
Give us cool heads, stout hearts, and uncanny flair for investigation and wise judgment.
Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores, strict with law-breakers and impervious to temptations.
You know, Saint Michael, from your own experiences with the devil, that the police officer's lot on earth is not always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration.
And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your heavenly force, where we will be as proud to guard the throne of God as we have been to guard the city of all the people. Amen.
Rest easy brother for we continue the watch.

All of us in the field of law enforcement are always saddened and shocked when an officer is taken away so suddenly. I visit this web site often and mourn each officer across our country who has paid that ultimate sacrifice doing this job we do. Having been in law enforcement since 1984, I realize all too well just how quickly an officer's life can be stolen away, but it never lessens the despair we all feel each time we learn of yet another untimley, senseless death. Rest easy Deputy Gammill. We will not forget...

First I would like to extend my sympathy to the family and loved ones of Deputy Blake Gammill. I work in Zone 4 which is a fair distance from the city proper. Most of the time my only back up are the deputies that work in that area. In fact Blake was my back up on several calls. I will miss you watching my back. I know that you rest in God's arms now and those of us left behind will have to continue your good work. Sometimes the people we have to come in contact with don't like us or respect us but know you always had my respect. Rest in peace now my brother.

Upon the markers of their graves
Our heroes etched in names we save
For all the life they gave with pride
To keep the peace within life's stride

To honor serve and do their best
To keep us safe through any quest
They gave up what was theirs to share
Their spirits shall be always near

No fear within the hearts and minds
To keep us safe within our times
The glory that is ours to see
Those special hearts of bravery

They have walked where no man dare
Their lives in danger with no care
For they have given all they could
For their courage we have stood

In awe of every one who gave
His life for others who they saved
So we will know their contribution
Their firm resolve and resolution

For those they left with hearts so broken
In every whispered word that's spoken
We bow our heads in confirmation
In every word life's revelation

Those who stand within their shoes
Will follow courage as they choose
And give to all the best they had
They carry on with spirits glad

We will know that they walked through
With colors bright and hearts so true
No Island stands alone they say
For heroes they are born this way

Protecting those with loyalty
A glimpse of so much royalty
Within the years of courage bound
These officers have earned their crown

Upon the earth we shall remember
The special goals and all their thunder
That proves a hero came our way
Who left their hearts on earth to stay.

My heart goes out to the wife and children of this fine officer. My father has only been gone since 1-26-05. i will not tell you it will get easier but, that people are praying for you and hoping that you find peace. I do believe that all officers are special people and devote their lives to doing good and that you can be proud of. May god comfort you and your family during this time and keep your loved one close. Take care, I will be thinking of you and praying for you. All of our officers are now in heaven and have found the peace they worked so hard for us to have here on earth.
My god hold you in his arms.

As I listened to the Channel 2 news at 11:00 last night and they reported that a Douglas County Deputy had been shot, my heart sank because one of the people who protects my family and I here in Douglas County had fallen. I silently said a prayer that everything would be ok, but it wasn't to be. Deputy Gammill graduated from High School with my daughter. Although I did not know him personally, it feels as though a member of my family has passed away. Thank you Deputy Gammill for paying the ultimate for me, my family and the citizens of Douglas County. My heartfelt thanks also to those who still serve with the Douglas County Sheriff's Department. May God Bless Sheriff Miller and his entire staff.
