Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Charles Richard Thomas Haist

When I read my Bible, I am reminded of you when we were in youth group
When I turn on the radio, I am reminded of your goofy antics to just about any song
When I consider what kind of man I am, I am challenged to work harder! You taught me so much just by being you! Miss you brother!

Forever missing my brother! I will never forget how the HCPD came along side of the family after and remained there for years. Chuck, your smile, your love of life, your love of others were so unique and contagious! Thank you for always being by friend and brother!

Chuck "Good Times" Haist. Gone but never forgotten. I remember when I first met you in 2002. You said "I want to work with that man on Evening Watch". Well you did and did it well. We definitely had Good Times My Brother.

I’ve been goin through a few of our old pictures tonight and I couldn’t stop staring at your sweet smile in every picture.
I can’t change what happened, I have changed how I handle it and handle you being gone but I will never be able to handle why the back 1/2 of our book “life” we were writing had all the pages ripped out before we had a chance to write it. You’re still an inspiration and influenced bt SO many people and I KNOW you always will be.

14 years since you left us. Still so hard to believe you are gone. Life has gone on, but definitely has not been the same. Your absence is always felt and you are always missed. You are there with us in spirit and we feel it. But it does not replace you actually being there. Know you are still love and missed everyday.

Another birthday that you are not here for...it never gets easier. I know you are celebrating in heaven with a lot of friends and family, but I still wish you were here and we were all planning on meeting for dinner. So hard to believe that this is your 14th birthday that we haven't had with you. Just know your are thought about today and everyday...Love you, Cuz! :-(

It is so hard to believe that you have been gone for 13 years. We went to the crash site today and got to see several of your HCPD family. It was awesome that after all this time, they still showed up for you. That was the impact you had on people. My heart still breaks knowing that you are gone. So much has happened and so much has changed. I know you are still close by, but I wish you were still here. You are still missed by everyone who knew you. And although life has gone on, it is not the same without you. Gone, but not forgotten. Heroes never die!

11 years, it just doesn't seem possible. Time truly does fly by and life truly does continue. But it hasn't been the same without you here. You are missed everyday. The hole you left in our family will always be there. Although we do love to sit around and tell our "Chuck" stories, they comfort us as we remember our precious times with you. They say time heals all things, but I diagree. I can remeber that day, that call like it was yesterday. I still hear things and see things that remind me of you, and I still cry. It still breaks my heart that you are gone. But you are definitely not forgotten, because Heroes never die, and in our family, you truly are a hero. ❤️

So many years have gone by, and not one day of those has come and gone without thinking of you. I miss your humor, crooked grin, easygoing attitude, but most of all I miss your friendship. I'll never forget your "out-of-the-blue" phone call to wish my family a Merry Christmas just as we sat down to eat. I love you, Brother. It's still not the same without you.

It's so hard to believe it has been 10 years. On one hand it seems like it was just yesterday, I remember that morning vividly. And yet, it seems like so long ago, so much has happened. You are still missed so much, yet you are still such a huge part of our family. You will always be with us, and we will always love and honor you...

I had the opportunity to work with Chuck while he was at Forest Park PD. He was a great guy and I thought a lot of him. I knew his dad and mother his uncle, Grandmother. It was like having family there. I was saddened when I heard about his death. It just seemed so unfair. he still had his whole life ahead of him.

Chuck,

I can't believe nine years has already passed since the day I got the call. Your sacrifice has not been forgotten and you're thought of more than you can imagine. As it has been said many times before, you were a great officer; a cop's cop, but an even better friend!

To the Haist Family - please know Chuck has not been forgotten and how much y'all are thought of with love as well!
