Reflections for Chief of Police Anthony Dwight Lucas

Chief Anthony,
I did not know you personally, but thru other officers, and all that I heard was praise. It is always hard when we hear of an officer going down. It makes it that much harder whenit is this close to home. To his wife and child know that he died a HERO and that he was doing what he loved to do. I know that once law enforcement gets in your blood it is no stopping. (3rd Generation)
Rest In Peace Brother We have the watch down here.

It's been just over 2 years since we lost Anthony. Anthony and I had a special bond with each other. We started and finished the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Training Academy (Class #182)togeather. Our song we graduated to was "Some Gave All"! I will never forget what Anthony told me before we left for the academy. I said "Anthony. are we gona take seperate cars?" He said "Nope, were going togeather as one and were gona finish as one!" That's who Anhtony was. He treated everyone as one and with respect! On February 4, 2005 God recieved a new angel in heaven and angel he was.
Anthony, you are truly missed brother! I can't wait to see you again!!! God bless the Lucas Family!

It will be one year that you were called away. For some people in your family it will feel like a lifetime ago that they last heard you speak to them or touch you. You will always be in their hearts and will never be forgotten. The Blue Family will also see that you are never forgotten. Chief, you are a true hero. Keep watch over your family and protect and guide them. Help ease some of their pain as I know they have broken hearts that will never truely mend. God be with you and your family.

To the family and friends of Chief Lucas and his co-workers in the French Camp Police Department and the Mississippi Dept. of Corrections:

On behalf of our entire family, we extend our deepest condolences to you on the grievous loss you suffered when Chief Lucas was so brutally murdered. I am sure this was a devastating blow to the entire community as well. Please know that we grieve for you and with you. I am glad that there has been some measure of justice for this senseless and horrific crime. As a Californian, it is amazing that this case has already been disposed of and sentence rendered. The justice system in California moves much slower, and I know the legal proceedings were hard on your family. Our family will keep Chief Lucas and his loved ones in our prayers...there is no distance between our hearts. This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for Chief Lucas for the service he gave to his community and the citizens of Mississipi, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made in the line of duty.

My fiancé, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. Dennis was a Deputy Sheriff with the Davis County Sheriff's Office in southeast Iowa. Dennis died doing a job he loved, just as I'm sure Anthony did. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Anthony be the last to die this way.

Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Chief Lucas' family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out to you all, especially to his wife. No one can truly understand the pain of our loss until they've walked in our shoes. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through this tough time, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Just know that my thoughts are with you.

Please accept my condolences on behalf of the McElderry family and remember that Anthony is part of huge law enforcement family. If you ever need anything any number of them will be there for you (as I've quickly found out!) From reading the many reflections posted here, I am certain Anthony was well respected and well loved. Anthony sounds like an amazing man. You were blessed to have had him in your life, even for a short time.

Thank you Chief Lucas for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please say "hello" to my fiancé Dennis for me.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)
