Tom Cochran was my grandfather and he was the best. He always told me life was a gift from god and that never take it for granted. He always taught me right from wrong and taught me to go the right way in my future. I will miss him so much and my love goes out for him and the rest of my family. I love you Grandpa, Jo'Nee and my mom Tracy Caswell (Cochran). You will be missed Grandpa!

Tom loved being an officer. I knew him his entire career. He wasn't only an officer in iniform but, out of uniform as well. He carried every case with him in his heart, that is what made him good. The heart is a powerful thing, it is what pushed him to finish that case, to find the answers. He was truly born to do the job of a police officer. I admired him for that. I often wonder how he could deal with the awful thing he had to deal with as a detective and to continue to give it his all. I then realized he never thought of the victims as just some person he didn't know they were people he cared about like family and was determined to give them the justice they deserved. He had that tatooed on his forearm for all to see "JUSTICE" You see I was one of his biggest fans....I am his daughter.
Thanks to all of you for supporting us.

Tracy Caswell, Deputy Coroner
Dearborn Co. Coroners Dept.

The loss of my brother in law has been a life changing experience. I have developed an overwhelming respect for police officers and firemen who risk there lives every day to make our community a better place to live.
Tom always took care of me and my 2 girls when ever we needed anything. Now he is our angel who will look out for us from heaven. We love you Tom.

Having met Tom just over a year ago, I couldn't help but notice his quiet confidence as he was tracking down leads on a bank robbery. Though I only spent a short time with him, his desire to leave no stone unturned was quite astonishing. He continually thanked me for assisting him, though he was the one that deserved the thanks, for he lead by example. To his family, friends, and co-workers at Lawrenceburg P.D., please accept my sincerest condolences as we pay tribute to one of the finest to have walked the beat.

Respectfully,

Tom was a great man. He will be missed by all. I only had the oppurtunity to talk to him a couple of times. I could tell alot about him. Very intelligent and caring. I feel so bad for the family, the police in the area, and the community. They lost a great man that would help all. Anyone that was able to talk to him, work with him, or be around him should consider themselves lucky. May he rest in peace. 10-42.

Off and away he went, the eagle flies high, "wait" a voice says, "I must say goodbye" then another voice says, "Its ok son, those who knew you, loved you, and in that grace, it was your goodbye." "Enter My Kingdom now and rest your feet, down on Earth you worked your beat, here angels sing loudly, "Welcome home Thomas Cochran, welcome home"

I wish peace for the Cochran Family at this sorrowful time. In the many years I have worked at the Dearborn County Sheriff's Department, and all the Officers that have come in with arrests, it is too easy to take them and their work for granted! To TOM and ALL Police Officers in Dearborn County: YOU ARE LOVED, and APPRECIATED. Please keep YOUR safety in mind as you are protecting others.

I worked with Tom early is his career during the mid to late 70’s and again in the late 80's, but you could see him developing into a very good investigator even then. He worked tirelessly to break cases and to bring them to a successful criminal conviction. He loved his profession with a passion, sometimes to the point of obsession.

We played basketball together on several FOP teams during the 70’s in the younger years. Tom approached everything with the eagerness to be the best he could be.

I have been out of the career for nearly 20 years, but you never leave the brotherhood. Tom’s death has caused me to reflect on my life and experiences in law enforcement.

God Bless the officers of Lawrenceburg and surrounding communities, many of which I consider my good friends and some I have never met. May God help you through the service and the days ahead. Tom would have wanted you to grieve and then get on with the business at hand taking criminals off the street.

Tom will always be in the memories of my service in law enforcement in the Dearborn County area.

God Bless the Cochran family.

It is not often you will know a veteran police officer with so many years of service who will continue to work as hard as Tom. He deserves to be honored for it. There also seems to be certain officers in given areas that become "pillars" for other officers to lean on and learn from. To become such an icon can only be achieved over many years of admirable integrity and hard work.....Tom also fits that bill. I met Tom about 17 years ago or so. His work ethic, sense of laughter, and care about his work has never changed. He will be missed. God bless his family. Tom Baxter
