Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer James Mitchell Prince

At least no one can hurt you now, just because you want to patrol the community and take care of your family. Rest peacefully in God's comforting hands.
To the Prince family and friends, know that you are cared about and prayed for everywhere you see law enforcement as they too have families thinking of you.

I said a prayer for patrolman Prince's family friends and coworkers.
Father, be with the friends and family of this officer who are now just 15 hours into the worst day of their lives. Surround the family with loving hands and hearts who will lend continued support in these tough days. Touch the hearts of their children and protect them and keep them close in the days to come. Be with his coworkers and give them strength to continue in their calling. And Father, thank you for giving your life for us just as this officer gave his to protect others.

It is an honorable duty that patrolman Prince chose as his life. Know that many other patrol officers feel a heavy loss as one of our brothers has fallen. God bless you and keep you.

I'm so sorry that you had to leave this world doing what you loved to do. Please give your family strength to carry on without you. It's not fair that these things happen to good people.

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

I am very saddened to hear that NC has lost another law enforcement officer under such tragically inexplainable and needl, ess circumstances.

I pray for the family friends and colleagues of this fine officer. It is amazing to consider the sacrifices of reserve officers who usually don't even get paid, but volunteer to do this beloved, indespensable and insane job solely out of a desire to serve the community.

This brave officer now stands a post in Heaven with St. Michael. God bless and be safe out there brothers and sisters.
