Reflections for Police Officer Amy Lynn Donovan

My deepest sympathy goes out to the family of P.O. Donovan. My deepest sympathy also goes to her Partner that night. I understand the terrifying grief you face. You see my Partner and I were in a similar incident, in which I reversed while driving as she started to chase an offender. She too has children and a husband waiting for her to return home. And although she was only bruised in our incident, I understand first hand how you feel, and I still cannot always forgive myself for what happened. But my Partner has told me not to worry about what happened to us. She knows I would never do anything to hurt her purposely. She has told me that she understands that anything can happen. I know that is what P.O. Donovan also understood while taking this job. I know she loved this job, and now she is on patrol in a better place. To everyone that knew her, you will always be in my prayers.

Amy,
Thank-you for being a good friend throughout the academy and while out on the streets. You made me laugh as much as I made you laugh. I will always remeber our last conversation we had at arrest review. The smile and glow you had on your face when you were telling me how awesome your husband is and how funny your little boy was, when he was yelling,"Chase stuck, Chase stuck!" I shall miss our little conversations we had whenever we ran into eachother. My prayers, along with that of my family go out to you and your family. I am sorry I could not have been there to help you, my heart hurts and my eyes cry. I will miss you Sweet Lady "D" and I am truly sorry I could not have been there for you during your time of need as I said I would be during the academy. I know the whole incident was in God's hands, and that he needed you with him in heaven, but I still have to say I am sorry. I will miss you my friend, my sister and I will never forget you or your family. Thank you again for being a friend...Good Night and Semper FI.

The urgent calling of nature longs to be tested, seeks to be challenged beyond itself. The warrior within us beseeches Mars, the god of War, to deliver us to that crucial battlefield that will redeem us into the terrifying immediacy of the moment. We want to face our Goliath so we may be reminded that the warrior David is alive, in us. We pray to the war gods to guide us to the walls of Jerrico so we may dare the steadfastness and strength of our trumpet call. We aspire to be defeated in battle by powers so much greater than ourselves, so that the defeat itself will have made us larger than when we arrived. We long for the encounter that will ultimately empower us with dignity and honor....Be not mistaken: the longing is there and it's terrible and beautiful and tragic. (Richard Heckler)

To the family, friends, and co-workers of Officer Donovan my prayers are with you. My son was accidently killed by another officer in January 04. There is nothing I can say that will make things better, I wish it was that easy. I know that I kept thinking how much Clint loved being a police officer and would not have traded places with anyone.
Officer Donovan your family will miss you everyday, but we will never forget you. Look Clint up for me tell him that his Mama "Loves him the most," you'll get a laugh out of him, and he'll know what it means.

Amazing grace. How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved.
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come;
'Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far
And grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.

Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
and mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

When we've been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun,
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we've first begun.

Hold strong, Family, Friends and PARTNER, many are here for you.

just a kind heart....
