Reflections for Patrolman Angel Andrew Barcena

My brother officer now walks a different beat. But rest assured he will never be forgotten. God rest your soul. My deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

I never dreamed it would be me,
My name for all eternity,
Recorded here at this hallowed place
Alas, my name, no more my face.

"In the line of duty, " I hear them say:
My family now the price to pay.
My folded flag stained with their tears;
We only had those few short years.
The badge no longer on my chest,
I sleep now in eternal rest.
My sword I pass to those behind,
And pray they keep this thought in mind.

I never dreamed it would be me,
And with heavy heart and bended knee,
I ask for all here from the past:
Dear God, let my name be the last.

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children OF GOD

Searching for words of comfort is sometimes the hardest thing one can do at a time like this. Officer Barcena will now watch over us, and protect a different beat. Thank you for your service! Your brothers and sisters in law enforcement will take it from here.

My fiance, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. Dennis was a Deputy Sheriff with the Davis County Sheriff's Office in southeast Iowa. Dennis died doing a job he loved, just as I'm sure Angel did. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Angel be the last to die this way.

Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Officer Barcena's family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out to you all. No one can truly understand the pain of our loss until they've walked in our shoes. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through this tough time, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Just know that my thoughts are with you.

Please accept my condolences on behalf of the McElderry family and remember that Angel is part of huge law enforcement family. If you ever need anything any number of them will be there for you (as I've quickly found out!) From reading the many reflections posted here, I am certain Angel was well respected and well loved.

Thank you Officer Barcena for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please say "hello" to my fiance Dennis for me.

Peace, Love, Luck, and Happiness!

In the blink of an eye for the way that he tried, he paid the ultimate price.... Along with all others whom we honor each spring with words that we speak and the songs that we sing. Lies the question we all ask, which no one can say.....This man gave his all....Did I come close today?

We are very sad to lose a fellow officer in this time of situation. Our hearts go out to the family of Officer Barcena and we pray that he will never be forgotten. We also want all of our brothers and sisters in law enforcement to remember that we do a job that most people only know about from what they see on the news, read in the paper or what they see on COPS. We must all remember our fallen FRIENDS and make sure that they have not died in vain. We must strive to be the best we can be, to make this world of ours a better place.

DAY IS DONE,
GONE THE SUN,
FROM THE HILLS, FROM THE LAKE, FROM THE SKIES.
ALL IS WELL, SAFELY REST,
GOD IS NIGH.

GO TO SLEEP, PEACEFUL SLEEP,
MAY THE SOLDIER OR SAILOR, GOD KEEP.
ON THE LAND OR THE DEEP,
SAFE IN SLEEP.

LOVE, GOOD NIGHT,
MUST THOU GO,
WHEN THE DAY, AND THE NIGHT NEED THEE SO?
ALL IS WELL. SPEEDETH ALL
TO THEIR REST.

FADES THE LIGHT;
AND AFAR
GOETH DAY, AND THE STARS SHINETH BRIGHT,
FARE THEE WELL; DAY IS GONE,
NIGHT IS ON.

THANKS AND PRAISE,
FOR OUR DAYS,
'NEATH THE SUN, 'NEATH THE STARS, 'NEATH THE SKY,
AS WE GO, THIS WE KNOW,
GOD IS NIGH.

I am so sorry to hear about your departments loss. My thoughts go out to Officer Barcena's family. I am not a law enforcement officer or deputy, but when one of them losses their life, it really does hurt. Everyone involed in law enforcement is part of a large family and feel for all in that family.
