Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff John Kevin Gunsell

To those I Love and Those Who Love Me

When I am gone, release me, Let me go
I have so many things to see and do.
You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears,
Be happy that we had so many years.

I gave you my love, you can only guess
How much you gave to me in happiness.
I thank you for the love you each have shown,
But now it's time I traveled alone.

So grieve a while for if grieve you must
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It's only for a while that we must part
So bless the memories within your heart,

I won't be far away, for life goes on
So if you need me, call and I will come
Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near
And if you listen wih your heart, you'll
Hear all of my love around you soft and clear

And when you must come this way alone,
I'll greet you with a smile and say,
"Welcome Home"

In memory of a great friend
Gone but not forgotten......141

Deputy Gunsell and family,
My heart is heavy when I hear another Officer has fallen. My thoughts will be with you and your family always. You will never be forgotten. The Michigan law enforcement family will take care of your family here on earth. And when your wife is ready, there will be people here she can turn to and count on. Please watch over your brothers and sister who continue to selflessly put their lives in danger in order to keep us safe.

John was one of my very dearest friends and is missed very much by those of us who were blessed by knowing such a great man. My heart goes out to everyone touched by this lose as it is very great for everyone in our community. John was one of those rare people you meet that when you meet them you can't help but like them. He was always in a good mood and made those around him laugh and smile by the funny and witty things he would say. He was also the type of person who would help anyone he could and wouldn't ask for anything in return. John could always be counted on for advice or if you just needed to talk. Rest in Peace John you will never be forgotten.

I will miss John. He was sweet, kind, funny, and most importantly honorable. He was a caring father and a hard working deputy. I loved him and I feel blessed that I met him and had the opportunity to share his life. I will never forget him. He will be in my heart forever.

Please remember the fallen officers we have lost. Remember the men and women who died trying to make this world a safer and better place for us all to live in. Thank you Deputy Gunsell for a job well done. Please continue to watch over us and protect us as only you can. You will forever be at our side and in our hearts.

For those of you who still have loved ones with us please take the time to tell them how much you appreciate and care about them.

IF I KNEW

If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.

If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.

For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.

There will always be another day
to say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do?"

But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,

That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear

Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

To the family, friends and co-workers of Sheriff Gunsell you are in my prayers. I know to well what you are going through, and know what you are feeling. The only thing that kept me going was the fact that Clint loved being a police officer and he would not have traded places with anyone.
Deputy Gunsell your family will miss you everyday, but we will never forget you. Look Clint up for me and tell him we miss him dearly...
