Reflections for Prison Guard Archibald Benedict

Archibald,
On today, the 120th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of the state of New York. There is no tougher job in Law Enforcement than that of a Corrections Officer. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

I have never fully figured out how the prison system became "corrections". These 'people' are not held in the custody of the states to be corrected, but to punish and keep away from society. Correct? What is the percentage of those who actually are "corrected"?

Guard Benedict, you did your best for the sake of society in keeping criminals away from decent people and for that I thank you. You did a job that even now is not pleasant, but HAS to be done and I admire all who take on that daunting task of keeping convicts controlled and peaceful. You truly are a hero.

God Bless and may you forever rest peacefully, Brother.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 111th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Rest In Peace

I am so very thankful to discover family history such as my Grandfather's and touched by the comments and reflections made by others. I am of course so thankful for his service and will honor his memory by passing this history on to my own children.

Officer Benedict,
On today, the 109th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of the state of New York. It took another 2 years, but your murderer finally got the justice that he deserved.
