Chris,

I have struggled deeply with the reality of your death. I can't imagine the pain and loss that your wife, siblings, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends must feel, all I can do is share their pain from a distance. I pray that they are comforted in this time of sorrow and grief. I know you are helping us along the way. Until we meet again, I know you are in the BEST of company! I am honored and proud to have called you, cousin. You will be truely missed! With all my love.

TO: The family; loved ones; friends and department members: A POLICE OFFICER’S PRAYER : O, gentle Lord! Keep the day / night watch with me. As I begin my tour of duty, I ask your protection from all mental, physical and spiritual harm. Sustain me with the knowledge that I am doing your work, endeavoring to keep peace among your people. Help me to be just as I enforce the law without prejudice or favor to anyone. May I be courageous but not reckless in carrying out my duties. Let me respond to all calls with haste realizing that so many are dependent on me for life and safety. Support me with your consoling power when I am tempted to think that no one really cares and that I am taken for granted. Sustain in me the conviction that so many thousands do care and are grateful for my presence. Grant that I may be loyal to my partner and my fellow officers, and that I may back them up effectively when called upon for assistance. Lord, I ask that I may return safely, after my tour of duty, to my loved ones and those who love me. I pray that I may be a good and honorable police officer; and after my tour of duty is over here on earth, may I enjoy the peace and happiness of heaven that you have promised to those who serve you well. AMEN. ** REST IN PEACE** Sent to you by the father of Master Officer J.D.Koeppen, Capital City Raleigh NC; Trooper D.C. Koeppen, NJ State Police and Cadet Officer A.M. Koeppen Wilmington N.C.

Family, Friends and Co-Workers,

It has been over three weeks since our loved ones were taken away. I am still at a loss for words with what happened to my husband (EOW 7/20/04). It was a senseless act. Everyday is a challenge to live, but I know he is standing behind me and helping me get through this. I believe the same for you and yours. Recall the good memories and God bless all of you.

Chris - One quote I try to live my life by you have made come alive in your passing "Live each day as if it were your last, because some day it will be" Chris this is who you were. You appreciated life and gave the most of yourself. I am inspired by your courage, strength, and love. I know you will be helping your family from above to find the strength to try to continue on with their lives, and every time your children smile I know your presence will be there. Rest in peace, you will forever be missed.

I PERSONNALLY NEW CHRIS. I MET HIM BACK IN 1992 WHEN WE SERVED TOGETHER IN THE U.S MARINE CORPS. DURING THAT TIME PERIOD CHRIS AND I WERE BOTH STATIONED TOGETHER AT NAS CECIL FIELD FL U.S MARINE CORPS SECURITY FORCE CO. DURING OUR YEAR OR SO STAY IN FLORIDA CHRIS AND I BECAME VERY CLOSE FRIENDS. MAYBE IT WAS BECAUSE WE BOTH WANTED TO BE POLICE OFFICERS. LAST YEAR, WHILE ON VACATION, I RAN INTO CHRIS AND HIS FAMILY. THIS WAS THE FIRST I HAD SEEN HIM IN 12YRS OR SO. DURING THIS UNBELIEVIBLE CHANCE MEETING WE EXCHANGED INFORMATION AND UPDATED EACH OTHER ON WHAT WE HAVE BEEN DOING THE LAST 12YRS. ON THRUSDAY, OF THIS YEAR, JUST BEFORE RETURNING TO PA I FOUND OUT ABOUT CHRIS' ACCIDENT. THE NEWS WAS NUMBING. IT WAS LIKE LOSING A BROTHER. THERE ARE MANY THINGS I REMEMBER ABOUT CHRIS BUT THE TWO THINGS I REMEMBER THE MOST IS THAT CHRIS COULD TALK YOUR EAR OFF AND HE WOULD DO ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING FOR ANYBODY. THERE ARE MAY OTHER THINGS I COULD SAY ABOUT CHRIS BUT I KEEP THIS REFLECTION MINIMAL. MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH SUSAN AND THE KIDS. SEMPER FI CHRIS SHEA. YOU'LL BE DEARLY MISSED MY BROTHER.
