Dear Yvette,
I was so sorry to hear about the untimely passing of my friend and fellow officer. Although it's been awhile, Lauren still remembers Leilani and the friendship they shared. I remember Oreo wanting to be an officer, so badly, and being so happy and excited for me when I got on to Metro Dade. Oreo was the kind of person you met once and felt you knew for life. A friend that would stand by his friends through any circumstance. He was a person who loved with his whole heart. This was so evident by his example as a husband, father, friend, and officer. Please know we are a phone call away and our thoughts and prayers are with you and the girls.
Love,
Jeff, Christi, Lauren, and Bubba

of you on the first anniversary of your
death. After reading all the reflections, it is easy to see that you

what was written, you were a sweet
family man and a professional cop.
Our hearts are filled with grief for
such a huge loss. God bless all those who continue to greatly

Oreo, I asked last night in my prayers to be with your family today as we gathered for Christmas dinner or Noche Buena as we Cuban-Americans call it. Thank you for the wonderful memories, it gives me the strength to know you are walking beside me and touching our lives in special ways, and I thank you for that.

I miss your friendship. Whether it was joking around between calls or sitting down on Dixie having a good Cuban meal. You had a special way of bringing out laughter in the people around you, and everyone that met you was left with a positive impression. So many times, you have made your presence known in little ways. I know that you are still doing your life's work of protecting others. It just happens to be on different streets now.

I feel blessed to have had your friendship even for a short period of time. God has a purpose for all he calls up. As for your family, though they miss you more than anyone could, they displayed strength, grace and dignity that was very comforting at your funeral. Your wife is one of the most courageous people I have ever known. Continue to hold her up and help her to heal.

Take care my friend and know that we are all here for your family, as we know you would be there for ours. BLE 165 wasn’t just the “Best of the best” it was a family.

09-06 my brother you'll be missed. Thanks for all you said and did for us. We Love You

Oreo,
Each night I pray and hope you can hear my prayers for you and your family. I've always said what a great man you were. You were giving, thoughtful, loyal, honorable and most importantly an "awesome dad". (Not only to the girls..but to a bunch of Grown men in blue toooo) Our last conversation was about just that. I said, "Cuki Lindo, you are such an incredible daddy" and your face lit up and you said that's how you want to be remembered. I loved how you would make us laugh and how proud you were to be a Cuban-American. Please know your family is being taken care of with kit gloves. I cannot even imagine what Yvette is going though. You both were an example to all marriages in the department family. We all take a piece of you to bed at night, making sure we say, "I love you". In life you did this and now in heaven your puppeteering us all with love. God bless you. I know you are wreaking havoc up there cracking jokes and being the incredible soul that you ARE. In our hearts and souls we, the loved ones of your "brothers", know that you are now their Guardian Angel sitting beside them from call to call. Just as you were in life, making sure EVERYONE was always ok. I love you and thanks for being a part of our lives. Sleep with the Angels, my friend. Te quiero mucho.

This tragedy has united our agencies and introduced those of us who didn't know you in life, to a man who was loved and respected by so many.
You never failed to wave when we drove by your home, on our way to a call nearby, if you happened to be outside. Your smile is now strangely more familiar in memory than before.
Fly close, blue angel. God bless you.

TO:The family;loved ones;friends and department members: A POLICE OFFICER'S PRAYER:-- O, gentle Lord! Keep the day/night watch with me.As I begin my tour of duty,I ask your protection from all mental, physical and spiritual harm. Sustain me with the knowledge that I am doing your work, endeavoring to keep peace among your people. Help me to be just as I enforce the law without prejudice or favor to anyone. May I be courageous but not reckless in carrying out my duties.Let me respond to all calls with haste realizing that so many are dependent on me for life and safety. Support me with your consoling powerwhen I am tempted to think no one really cares and that I am taken for granted. Sustain in me the conviction that so many thousands do care and are grateful for my presence. Grant that I may be loyal to my partner and my fellow officers, and that I may back them up effectively when called upon for assistance. Lord,I ask that I may return safely after my tour of duty,to my loved ones and those who love me.I pray that I may be a good and honorable police officer;and after my tour of duty is over here on earth, may I enjoy the peace and happiness of heaven that you have promised to those who serve you well.AMEN.***REST IN PEACE*** Sent to you by the father of Master Officer J.D.Koeppen,Capital City Ralegh NC;Trooper D.C.Koeppen,N.J.State Police and Cadet Officer A.M.Koeppen,Wilmington N.C.
