I wanted the families to know that I have them in my prayers. I know right now you wonder why, but God has his reasons. May God Bless each of you abundantly. I didn't know any one of them, but it doesn't mean I don't care. My Dad is a retired Firefighter. I have seen him go through many deaths in his department. Please know that me and my family have you in our prayers.

I'm not an officer, but I want to say that we as a nation are saddened by the extreme disregard for human life that seems to be on the move lately. These fine men are in Heaven where they will continue to watch over their families & loved ones. May God richly bless the families.

I don't know you and I don't know your family... I don't even live where you live..but i do know your pain. Losing someone that you love, whether it be from violence or not, is one of the toughest things in life. Just remember that God is there to heal your pain and to dry your tears. May the blessed memories of your family member soothe your pain and help you in this time of need. God Bless.

The Sound of Silence

Hello darkness, my old friend,
I've come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence.
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
'Neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence.

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more.
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dare
Disturb the sound of silence.

'Fools' said I, 'You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you.'
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed
In the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning,
In the words that it was forming.
And the sign said, 'The words of the prophets

are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls.'
And whisper'd in the sounds of silence.

Officer Bennett, I am going to curb expressing my sentiments of anger for now, and instead, assure you that your murder, and the murders of Officers Chisholm and Owens will not be in vain . . . we are outraged as a law enforcement community that this atrocity has occurred . . . that the three of you have been taken from us by such violent means. Your murders will motivate us to close our ranks tighter than ever before, to protect ourselves better and more effectively than ever before. Your sacrifice will not be in vain my brother . . . we will not allow it to be. As an Instructor at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, I will now train officers even harder than ever in issues of "Officer Safety." You, Officers Chisholm and Owens will always be there, pushing me. I appeal to all of our brother and sister officers to constantly reflect upon you, Chisholm and Owens, and let the reflection of this tragedy serve to motivate us all to tighten our ranks in order to forbid such an event, or the murder of any officer, from occourring again. In reality, we may not be able to prevent them, but you all seize upon the murder of Officers Bennett, Chisholm and Owens to motivate you to do all you can possibly do to to establish a goal of "no more murdered officers." We must do more than say "We must do more." Do it for them, youselves and your brother and sister officers.

This past January, my 2 good friends, Sergeant Larry Russell and Officer Tony Mims of the Athens, Alabama Police Department were ambushed and murdered by yet another coward with an SKS. Now this in Birmingham . . . NO MORE!

Y'all tighten our ranks. For the sake of, in memory of, out of respect to Officers Bennett, Chisholm and Owens, "gear up," . . . step up to the highest level of awareness possible . . . NO MORE!

Officer Bennett, your life served to make the world a safer place, your death will continue to do so through our memory of you and your 2 Birmingham brothers. We honor you and your memory. We will proudly cover your posts on the thin blue line . . . all of us give "some" . . . you have given "all" . . . no more can be asked of you . . . go rest high on that mountain . . . you have served with honor and bravery the citizens of Birmingham, our great State of Alabama, and our great Nation. We will never forget.

With brotherly love, utmost respect and loyalty, Jim Crotty (Former Richmond, VA Police Officer.)

Jim Crotty, Special Agent (Ret.)
